Discussion

After conducting the experiment the results prove the validity of the Reynolds
number. The experiment allows the mathematical representation of fluid behavior to
be compared to that of a visual representation. The calculated Reynolds Number
that is less than 2300 is defined as laminar which is represented by the blue dye in
the apparatus (Figure 4). Reynolds numbers that lay between 2300 and 4000 are
described as transitional. Figure 5 shows this phenomenon as the dye transforming
from a single flow stream dissipating into many. Turbulent flow is indicated by a
Reynolds number larger than 4000 indicated by Figure 6 which illustrates great
fluid stream dissipation.
