To identify and understand the Idaho Core Teacher
Standards
To identify and understand the Danielson Framework for
Teaching evaluation tool.
To understand the expectations of a teaching
professional in the state of Idaho.

Idaho has created 10 standards for teachers


to follow. The standards outline the
necessary and expected skills of a teacher.
They guide a teacher to understand what is
required. The standards also create a
guideline for teachers to be evaluated
before acquiring a teaching career.

Idaho Core Teacher Standards


Standard #1: Learner
Development
The teacher understands how
learners grow and develop,
recognizing that patterns of
learning and development vary
individually within and across
the cognitive, linguistic, social,
emotional, and physical areas,
and designs and implements
developmentally appropriate
and challenging learning
experiences.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher will identify,
create lessons, and
instruct children based
on knowledge of most
proficient learning.
The teacher will adapt
lessons to meet needs
and expand strengths

Standard #2: Learning
Differences.
The teacher uses
understanding of individual
differences and diverse
cultures and communities
to ensure inclusive learning
environments that enable
each learner to meet high
standards.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher will use strategies
and resources to meet
exceptional needs of students.
The teacher will allow time for
students to learn at their own
pace.
The teacher will have faith in
all learners, regardless of
culture, abilities, or
background.

Standard #3: Learning
Environments
The teacher works with
others to create
environments that support
individual and collaborative
learning, and that
encourage positive social
interaction, active
engagement in learning,
and self-motivation.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher will motivate and
lead their students in social moral
codes.
The teacher communicates and
collaborates with all people in a
childs life to ensure they are
meeting all needs in the best way
possible.
The teacher is a leader by being
respectful and thoughtful to
others, so that students will learn
to do the same.

Standard #4: Content
Knowledge.
The teacher understands the
central concepts, tools of
inquiry, and structures of the
discipline(s) he or she teaches
and creates learning
experiences that make the
discipline accessible and
meaningful for learners to
assure mastery of the
content.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher fully understands the
subject matter and also knows
how to use resources to best
instill knowledge in students.
The teacher understands
common misconceptions and is
aware of making them clear
during instruction.
The teacher fosters student
reflection for further in depth
understanding.

Standard #5: Application of
Content.
The teacher understands
how to connect concepts
and use differing
perspectives to engage
learners in critical thinking,
creativity, and collaborative
problem solving related to
authentic local and global
issues.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher will use access to
resources and technology to help
learners absorb concepts.
The teacher will connect
concepts to real-world problems
and stimulate critical thinking
and questioning.
The teacher will allow learners to
engage in local and global
perspectives to expand
understanding.

Standard #6: Assessment.

Teacher Requirements:

The teacher understands


and uses multiple methods
of assessment to engage
learners in their own
growth, to monitor learner
progress, and to guide the
teachers and learners
decision making.

The teacher will understand


how to create assessments
that will show how much
students already
understand about a given
topic.
The teacher will understand
how to use the information
from the assessments to
judge future lessons.

Standard #7: Planning for
Instruction.
The teacher plans instruction
that supports every student
in meeting rigorous learning
goals by drawing upon
knowledge of content areas,
curriculum, cross-disciplinary
skills, and pedagogy, as well
as knowledge of learners and
the community context.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher understands
content and standards,
and effectively integrates
them into engaging
learning material.
The teacher is flexible in
strategies that will
promote maximum
knowledge

Standard #8: Instructional
Strategies.
The teacher understands
and uses a variety of
instructional strategies to
encourage learners to
develop deep understanding
of content areas and their
connections, and to build
skills to apply knowledge in
meaningful ways.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher understands all
ranges of development, and
how to meet the needs of all
students.
The teacher uses multiple
forms of communication for
mutual understanding.
The teacher is flexible and
continuously monitors,
collaborates, and adapts to
ensure better learning.

Standard #9: Professional
Learning and Ethical Practice.
The teacher engages in
ongoing professional learning
and uses evidence to continually
evaluate his/her practice,
particularly the effects of his/her
choices and actions on others
(learners, families, other
professionals, and the
community), and adapts practice
to meet the needs of each
learner.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher uses selfevaluation and assessment
to further their own
understanding of content
and student needs.
The teacher sees
themselves as a student
and focus on learning and
furthering their own
professional goals.

Standard #10: Leadership and
Collaboration.
The teacher seeks
appropriate leadership roles
and opportunities to take
responsibility for student
learning, to collaborate with
learners, families, colleagues,
other school professionals,
and community members to
ensure learner growth, and to
advance the profession.

Teacher Requirements:
The teacher is mature in
interactions and
collaborations with other
working professionals
The teacher respects the
hierarchy of the school
and family to further
students educational
careers.

These standards depict what your career must follow as a


teacher. A teacher will be evaluated to make sure they
are upholding these and being an effective teacher.

A teacher will also be evaluated using the Danielsons


Framework for Teaching. This is a set of research based
components that are important for proper instruction.
They are split between 4 domains and 22 components.

Assessm ent Scales


The Danielson Framework measures teachers on a 1-4
base- unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished.
Their levels provide detailed circumstances to assess
teachers and it also provides real-world examples.

Conclusion
There are 10 Idaho Core Standards for teachers to
adhere to and must exemplify before certification.
The 10 Idaho Core Standards match up with the
Danielsons Framework for Teaching Evaluation Method.
It helps teachers assess their abilities and find areas for
growth.
The Framework Method has 4 domains Planning and
Preparation, Classroom Environment, Instruction, and
Professional Responsibilities.
The Framework Method assesses teachers using a scale
from unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished.
