Leadership Programs
To complement the student experience at Cascadia, Leadership Programs
through Student Life will provide opportunities for extended learning beyond
the classroom. Programs structured through the three areas of Explore, Serve,
and Lead will offer opportunities to for one time participation as well as
recognition for continual involvement.
Explore
These programs provide participants with opportunities to explore interdisciplinary
topics and draw connections to their own interests and goals. Participants will
explore what leadership means in a pluralistic world through multimedia platforms,
reflection on their own experiences, and engaging in discussion with other members
of the community.
Serve
These programs provide participants with opportunities to practice servant
leadership by engaging with and giving back to the community.

EXPLORE
TEDxCascadia
These programs are offered as drop in events held every other Wednesday throughout the
year. Participants will view preselected TED videos by speakers from around the world on
areas such as leadership, pluralism, justice, education, and inspiration. Following the video,
there will be discussion and/or an associated activity to complement the speakers
message.

SERVE
MLK Service Event - January
This event is a weeklong series dedicated to furthering the mission of Martin Luther King Jr.
Participants will have the opportunity to give to others through engaging with community
partners. There will also be the opportunity to attend speakers and engage with members of
the Cascadia and UWB community.
Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a student led initiative that gives students the opportunity
to take part in educational service projects during their scheduled spring break. The ASB
program encourages active citizenship by providing service opportunities addressing issues
within the community.
LEAD
Alternative Spring Break Student Site Leader
This opportunity goes beyond being a participant of Alternative Spring Break. ASB student
leaders assist in the planning process for the trips, contacting community partners, and
recruiting peer participation. These students lead their groups on-site and help facilitate the
educational experience for those involved.
Collaborative Leadership
MLK Planning Committee
This opportunity allows students to use their voice in planning the MLK Service event
in January. Collaborate with student leaders from Cascadia and UWB in bringing the
vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr to life.
Other Committee Opportunities
For students who are already involved in Student Life, this opportunity allows you to connect
your involvement to your own leadership development. For those who are not members of a
group, learn how to get involved or start your own club.
RECOGNITION
For students who are looking for a more continual involvement or intentional leadership
development, Leadership Programs offers a recognition track to draw connections
between experiences and create a community of leaders.

RECOGNITION TRACK
For students who are interested in pursuing this track, they will email in to receive updates
through an enewsletter (or listserv). This will serve as a mode of communication for events
on campus, including if there are preexisting events that will count as a Certified Explore
Program.
Participants will have one additional commitment in that they will meet with an advisor
(Student Life Intern) to discuss their Lead experience. This will provide support as they go
about planning their facilitations/presentations or other involvement. For those who are club
leaders, they will discuss how to incorporate what they have learned in their other
experiences back into their organization. For those who wish to use an experience that is not
listed as a Lead program, they may discuss this possibility during this meeting.
For students who wish to actively pursue this route or those who happen upon it towards the
end of the year, there will be a self-nominating process to gain recognition. A google form will
be open for the entire year, with submission request pushed heavily in spring quarter. The
form would look as the following, with a link on the Student Life website. Confirmation will be
served through sign in sheets at each event.
