5 Year Plan for Albert Einstein Memorial High School

Albert Crews, Matt Nelson

Philosophy: The Albert Einstein Memorial High School Band Programs philosophy is to provide an environment for our students to perform at the
highest quality. We achieve this through bringing together our music teachers to work as a community, utilizing college music education majors to
teach lessons, and providing extracurricular activities for our students to take ownership of their musicianship and academic success.

Recruitment

Establish relationships
with surrounding music
educators in our school
district.

Music Staff visits surrounding middle

schools in our district to talk to the
future AEMHS band students. Talk
with directors about bringing the
entire band to perform for their
students.

Establish an annual tour to the

surrounding middle schools to
perform to future members of the
AEMHS band program. Talk to
elementary director about adding
them into the tour for future years to
come.

Add the surrounding

elementary schools to the
tour established in the
previous year.

By the 5th year we will have an annual tour

to the surrounding Middle and Elementary
schools. Promoting the AEMHS band
program through performances and
interaction with band members.

Musicianship

Create before and after

school studios for different
instrumentation to give
students the opportunity
to share, perform, and
help each other.

Find musicians at the college level or

higher to offer students the
opportunity to take lessons.

Bring in distinguished musicians to

give master classes over the region
music for all instrumentation.

Have a higher standard on

the amount of students who
participate in solo and
ensemble competition. Offer
guidance and help for
participants.

By the 5th year students will be exposed to

multiple experiences from other musicians
brought outside of the program. As well as
hold students to higher standards on the
quality of their music.

Ensembles

Hold our Symphonic band

to same standards as
wind ensemble. The
ensemble will compete in
UIL and Solo and
Ensemble.

Offer and encourage lessons for

Symphonic band members as well as
encourage an increase in the amount
of students in wind ensemble taking
lessons.

Establish more concerts and find a

competition(s) for the jazz band. If
enough interest is shown to have
another jazz band, one can be
created.

Establish more competitions

for the marching band.
Including UIL and Area
competition.

By the 5th year all ensembles will be held to

a higher standard of what the ensemble
partake in and the effort given by the
students and the directors.

Summer

Create a week summer

music camp for students
with interest. One week
long camp for students to
learn and perform a
chamber ensemble piece
for fun.

Make the camp two weeks with

masterclasses for all instrumentation
added to the chamber ensemble
pieces. Chamber ensemble pieces
would now also be selected with the
idea of solo and ensemble entry.

Now in addition with the two week

camp students are provided with a
summer studio for all instrumentation
that meets once a week all summer.

With the summer camp and

studio implemented the next
step is to take our students
somewhere to compete.

By the 5th year an optional summer program

will be offered for students to play in
chamber ensembles, take private lessons,
attend master classes, and compete in
various competitions.

Academics

Each student will be

required to turn in a
progress report every 3
weeks from each class.

In addition with the previous year,

failing students will be required to
attend tutoring sessions given by the
teacher if offered.

Create a student-led study session for

struggling students. Upperclassmen
will be encouraged to take lead in
offering help.

Student who continue to

struggle will have a parent
meeting with the director
talking about the importance
of education.

By the 5th year, the music program will have

an established plan to ensure the number of
failing students will decrease drastically.
