Report Outline (suggested layout)

Introduction
Introduce the Report/Assignment. Use information from the Task
Sheet to help you with this. Give the task context ie. You are
assisting the tennis coach with FDMC Tennis program by
analysing a students tennis serve and suggesting ways to
improve their stroke, using Bio Physical Principles*. Like any
Formal writing, the introduction will tell the reader of what is to
come.
Functional Anatomy
After you have selected your images (minimum of 3) separate
these into the 3 phases of the swing: 1. Preparation Phase, 2.
Execution Phase, 3. Follow Through Phase.
For each of the 3 phases (you may have 1 or more images in
each phase), create and complete a Functional Anatomy Table.
Use the layout from your handout. Make sure you include
movements/agonists etc of both left and right joints.
Producing an accurate table, demonstrates your understanding
of Functional Anatomy and how it is applied to a Tennis Serve.
Biomechanics
Introduce, discuss and evaluate each of the biomechanical
principles covered in the unit. And how they relate to the tennis
serve Follow the following sentence structure.
Define the Biomechanical Principle eg. Summation of Force
Describe how this principle is applied in a tennis serve and
why it is important
Explain if the student uses this principle effectively or not.
Give specific examples from your images (eg. In image 2, we
can see the student does not flex his knee to the desired 45
degree limit)
If you wish, you can break up each principle into the three
phases and discuss individually or you may do as a whole. As
long as it is clear and you dont repeat yourself
Make sure you are linking Functional Anatomy and
Biomechanics together and use the Bio Physical language
associated

The Biomechanical Principles you should focus on are:

Balance/Stability (COG, BOS, LOG), Newtons 3 Laws of Motion,
Momentum, Levers, Force Summation and Projectile Motion
Skill Learning
Introduce skill learning and why it is important to understand the
individuals skill level before prescribing any instructional
program. Also identify what type of skill a tennis serve is. Eg. Is
it open/closed, Fine/Gross etc.
Discuss and analyse the Stages of Learning (Cognitive,
Associative and Autonomous). Define each and give examples
across different skills. Then discuss which stage your student is
in and how you came to that judgement.
Discuss Types of Practice and give examples of when to use a
specific method. For example, Part Method is used for someone
at the Cognitive Stage of Learning, to enable them to work on
specific areas first, before moving to Whole Part Whole
method. Make recommendations on what type of practice, your
student should undertake first and then progress to as their
stage of learning changes. Discuss how effective this was when
you took your student for a lesson.
Discuss Massed or Distributed Practice and how you would use
these principles when designing any program. Relate to Stages
of Learning and how you may have adapted your methodology
as time went on.
Sports Psychology
Explain how you would use Goal Setting principles to help the
student to achieve their specific goals Would you set
Performance or Outcome Goals and why?
Discuss how you would incorporate Mental Rehearsal into your
lessons and Evaluate the effectiveness of this method on your
students serve.
Discuss and evaluate how Self Talk (Positive) impacts
performance. Did using this method improve your students
serve?

What are the best strategies to control Anxiety/Arousal? Evaluate

the effectiveness of this with your student.
Conclusion
> Summarise your report in one short paragraph, discussing what
worked well and what could have worked better (maybe more time
allocated for instruction?)
