1. Where was Abraham Lincoln born?
On this day in 1809, Abraham Lincoln is born in Hodgenville, Kentucky.
2. Name all the jobs he had as an adult.
As an adult, he lived in Illinois and performed a variety of jobs including stints as
a postmaster, surveyor and shopkeeper, before entering politics. He served in the
Illinois legislature from 1834 to 1836, and then became an attorney. As leader of
the new Republican Party, Lincoln was considered politically moderate, even on
the issue of slavery. When he won the presidency by approximately 400,000
popular votes and carried the Electoral College

3.Did Abraham Lincoln go to school?


He attended school for only one year, but thereafter read on his own in a continual effort
to improve his mind.

4.What did Abraham Lincoln like to do the most?

He liked to read a lot, and he said he also liked to visit his cousins every Thursday,
6 p.m, and a black man to serve them a coffee for the moment.
5.When was he elected president of the United States? How was he elected?
As a presidential candidate in the election of 1860, Lincoln tried to reassure
slaveholding interests that although he favored abolition, he had no intention of
ending the practice in states where it already existed and prioritized saving the Union
over freeing slaves. When he won the presidency by approximately 400,000 popular
votes and carried the Electoral College, he was in effect handed a ticking time
bomb.

7.What did the Emancipation Proclamation do? Why is it so important?

In 1863, finally signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The document freed slaves in
the Confederate states, but did not address the legality of slavery in Missouri, Kansas,
Nebraska or Arkansas.

8. Why do you think Abraham Lincoln is called one of our greatest presidents?
Maybe because, even though he didnt wanted to give black people the same rights
as white people, he stopped slavery in most of the north states, lead them work,
from 9 to 5, like all citizens, and be free, helping a lot of people.

9.What is the Lincoln Memorial? Why was it made?
He first public memorial to Abraham Lincoln in Washington, D.C., was a statue by Lot
Flannery erected in front of the District of Columbia City Hall in 1868, three years after
Lincoln's assassination. The Memorial is filled with symbolism: the 36 columns
represent the states in the union at the time of Lincoln's death, the 48 stone festoons on
the attic above the columns represent the 48 states in 1922

10.What is Lincoln's Gettysburg address? What was the Battle of Gettysburg about?
Battle of Gettysburg, in july 1863. Then In November 1863, President Abraham
Lincoln was invited to deliver remarks, which later became known as the Gettysburg
Address, at the official dedication ceremony for the National Cemetery of Gettysburg in
Pennsylvania, on the site of one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles of the
Civil War. Though he was not the featured orator that day, Lincolns 273-word address
would be remembered as one of the most important speeches in American history. In it,
he invoked the principles of human equality contained in the Declaration of
Independence and connected the sacrifices of the Civil War with the desire for a new
birth of freedom, as well as the all-important preservation of the Union created in 1776
and its ideal of self-government.

11.Make a brief summary about his life and achievements.

Basically, Abraham Lincoln, was a great man, who only attended one year to school, so,
he started reading a lot of books to improve his mind. He had several jobs, tasks, like
being an attorney. He married Mary Todd. They raised four sons. Back in politics, he
also became leader of the Republican Party, didnt win the senate seat, but later
became the 16th president of united states.
Fought against slavery. Won the appreciation of the people, mostly, and changed strong
ideals, forbidding by law, in the states that didnt already have slavery approved, most
of them from the northern part. And, because of this, was assassinated by his own
Party, placing a bullet on his head, survived, but after a day, died because of the
trauma.
12.Name some interesting curious facts about Lincoln.
He was the only president to have a patent: Lincoln invented a device to free
steamboats that ran aground.
He practiced law without a degree. Lincoln had about 18 months of formal schooling.
He wanted women to have the vote in 1836. The future president was a suffragette
before it became fashionable.
He was a big animal lover, but he wouldnt hunt or fish. If he were alive today, Lincoln
would be running an animal shelter.
He really was a wrestler. Lincoln was documented as taking part in wrestling bouts. We
dont think he wore a mask or had a manager.
He lost in his first bid for a presidential ticket. The unknown Lincoln was an
unsuccessful vice presidential candidate in 1856 at the Republican convention.
He never belonged to an organized church. Lincoln read the Bible daily, but he never
joined an organized church in his lifetime.
.He didnt drink, smoke, or chew. Lincoln was a simple man of tastes, and he never
drank in the White House. He didnt have a middle name. Lincoln went through his life
with two names.
He hated being called Abe. Apparently, he preferred being called by his last name.

Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a national holiday.


He was the first president born outside of the 13 original states.

13.Reflection: What are your expectations about this new book that we are going to
read? What are you expecting to learn?
Well, I think this book is going to be really interesting, because it is about a very
important moment in history, so I am very happy because I am going to learn a lot of
facts, things that happened, an so on, and as I like a lot history, I am sure ill enjoy it.
