Family Tree Agamemnons parents are Arteus and Aerope. He has one brother named Menelaus. He married Clytemnestra and had three children: Electra, Iphigenia, and Orestes. He has one grandson Pelops. Trogan War • Agamemnon led the Greek forces to conquer Troy. Before they sailed from Aulis, they had to face the wrath of the goddess Artemis. Artemis was upset because she knew several men were going to die during the war. She used her powers to create strong winds to prevent the army from sailing to Troy. Artemis agreed to let the men go on with their journey as long as Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter, Iphigenia. Eventually, he sacrificed his daughter. Iphigenias death satisfied Artemis so she decided to let the men sail to Troy. Clytemnestra Before Clytemnestra married Agamemnon, she was married to Tantalus. Tantalus was killed by Agamemnon, who was his second cousin, so he could marry Clytemnestra. Return to Greece When Agamemnon came back from the war, he brought along a concubine, Cassandra. His wife, Clytemnestra, had an affair with Aegisthus. Clymnestra had been waiting for Agamemnon to return from Troy for ten years. Once he had returned, she killed him. • She killed him for two reasons. She was mad about the sacrifice of their daughter, Iphigenia, and she was jealous of Cassandra.
