Letter Kk
One-on-One Instruction (Read Well K Teachers Manual Pages
189-199)
1. Introduce the Tap and Clap ABC Song Track 16.
Play the song again and have students join in.
2. Play the Kk verse of the alphabet cheer, Track 13 on
the CD. Sing along with the cheer and point to the letter
Kk and the kid in a kayak as they are mentioned in the
cheer. Review the previous verses in the alphabet cheer
and the sounds each letter makes (A, E, H).
3. Review the letter Kk poem. Point out the kids in
kayaks at the bottom of the page. Reinforce that the
letter Kk makes the /k/ sound and that kayak and kid
start with this sound.
4. Practice writing the letter Kk on the Kk alphabet card.
In addition, the student may practice writing the letter
Kk on the Letter School iPad app.
5. Hold up the Kk letter card and either the Aa, Ee, or Hh
card. Have the student find the KK letter card. If the
student chooses the wrong card, pull the cards back.
Repeat three times or continue until the student ends on
successfully identifying Kk.
6. Starfall Letter Kk on the iPad
7. Read the Lap Book Words That Rhyme. While
reading the story, ask the student comprehension
questions where they can point to pictures in the book.
8. Play the rhyming game, Fox, Fox, Box. Have the
student identify if the words rhyme.
9. Compete the My Letter K Book. Have the student
trace the letter Kk on each page and color the picture
neatly. Reinforce that the pictures on each page of the
book start with the /k/ sound.
Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
Give the student two choices when identifying letters. If
the student is still not recognizing the letter, move one
of the letters forward on the next try.
On My Letter K Book, circle the objects in the color the
student is to color the items. Use hand-over-hand to
assist the students with color, cutting, and gluing.
