Client Name: Mrs. Sharon Spencer-Teacher at R. B.

Wright Elementary School

Target Audience: 3rd Grade Students with mixed abilities-Regular Education and Special
Education
Clients Needs: An instructional activity that can be enhanced by using visual materials in Social

instruction of Economics and limited time is also a factor. Creating visual materials to assist the
Economics unit will be an asset to the classroom learning environment.

Task: Students are to create a lunch budget for 5 days given a certain amount of money and have
to meet several criteria.
Process: Students must understand the vocabulary associated with economics and how to
determine needs and wants to stay within budget. Students will have to make choices in order to
stay within the set budget. First, students will be introduced to the vocabulary associated with
the lesson on Economics by viewing an infographic. Then students will listen to a Voki created
to explain the assignment to the students. The students will have a paper copy of the assignment
as well.
Evaluation: Check to see if students stayed within budget or went over budget. The rubric will
be used as a grading guide.
Design decisions: In designing artifacts to go with the lesson, I used the design principles of
personalization and multimedia for the Voki so that students can hopefully relate better to a voice
speaking to them and more it is more like conversation style which makes it personal. The
modality principle is also used in the Voki to present information visually and the infographic is
used to present information auditory. I also used the spatial contiguity principle when designing
the infographic as well so that the words and pictures would be near each other on the screen.
Descriptions of Artifacts: The Voki will be used to explain the directions to the assignment and
can be replayed if needed. The infographic will be used to explain the economics vocabulary
needed to complete the assignment.
Reflection: I enjoyed working on making this lesson contain more technology. Students need to
have the information presented in a way that will make them want to learn. Mrs. Spencer is a
great teacher to work with because she always wants what is best for the students and tries to
utilize the time to keep students engaged in the lesson and learning. This assignment was a bit of
a challenge for me because the abilities in the classroom vary a great deal although students that
needed extra support were paired with students that could help them. I enjoyed creating the Voki
to give students another way of hearing the information presented to them and gives them the
opportunity to review it whenever they need it. Infographics also help present the information in
a different but interesting way-instead of reading it on a worksheet or textbook.
