MOTHERS DAY SERIES

Dr. Betty R. Price

In this series, EIF Ministries has

packaged some of Dr. Bettys
most-thought provoking messages.
The Benefits of Knowing Him
What does it really mean to know Jesus? Knowing
Jesus means to have a personal relationship with
Him, spending time in His presence, communicating
and listening to Him.

A Heart After God

Whenever you hear the Word of God, it is a seed
sown into the ground which is the human heart.
When we hear the Word, it is up to us to apply it to
our lives. Once we receive the Word, we must then
become a doer of the Word.

You Can Trust God

Did you know you can trust God for everything you
need in your life? Learn to trust your heavenly Father.
He loves you so much that He gave His very best for
you. So if He gave us His best up front, why wouldnt
He want you to have the best in this life?

The God Kind of Life

God has called us a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, yet so many Christians
fail to live up to this high expectation our Father has
called us to. When we dont choose the path to live
according to the Word and live in the flesh, we will
find ourselves on the path of death and destruction.

Faith is Growing in Godliness

You grow in godliness by choosing to emulate Jesus.
Godly living means a self-controlled life. In order to
accomplish a godly lifestyle, it is important to make
rules for yourself that exemplify godly conduct.

How to Walk in Your Blessing as a Family

Everything we need in this life is in the Word of God.
When we take time to develop our spirit man by
spending time in the Word, we are building our faith in
Gods promises for our lives.

BPD25 $50
Living the Life of Faith
Faith is not just about hearing the Word. It is about
being a doer of the Word, which in essence is faithBelieving and taking God at His Word. In order to
please our heavenly Father and receive His best for
our lives, we must have faith in His Word.

The Prosperous Soul

Our souls have been damaged by sin, which is why
Jesus became the Word in the flesh to save us. The
Word says in 3 John 2, Beloved I pray you prosper in
all things and be in good health as your soul prospers.
God wants us to prosper in every area of life, but the
only way to accomplish this is to abide in His Word.

The Power That Works in Us

Did you know that you have power as a believer?
In order to operate in this power you must get into
the Word of God. Once you believe it and act on it,
you will experience the results of what our heavenly
Father says that we are.

Divine Partnership: Love and Faith

Pastor Fred Price
Note: Schedule is subject to change.

The world is full of changes. From one day to the next and
one minute to the next, you dont know what to expect. There
was a time when people could find some security and stability
in their jobs and in the established institutions around them.
However, all you have to do is pick up a newspaper or listen
to the television or radio to see that is not the case today. The
big guys are eating up the little ones, whether youre talking
about banks, politics, or whatever else.
Security? There is no such animal. Stability? Whats that!
But there is One who never changes and there is a place where
we can find security and that is in God. Hebrews 13:8 says,
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Its comforting to know that I as I get older and as the
world changes that God will always remain the same. That
says a lot about the character of God: that He can remain
steady, even as those who say they love Him fluctuate at any
given moment.
A hallmark of the Christian life is how much love we have
for God. We show that love in how we keep his commands,
which you can read about in the feature article of this issue. Dr.
Betty is also talking about love in this issue: how to show love
to your children as a godly mother. Shes been a wonderful
example of a good mother to our children from day one.
Minister Mark Peay writes about how worship is not work
but rest in the Exploring Worship column and weve got a fun
story about a family of five musicians
who attend Crenshaw Christian
Center, three of whom have been
Grammy nominated.
We thank you so much for reading

You are helping to make it happen.
We would love to hear from
you, please drop us a letter with a

If you are not

a Christian and
would like to
become one, pray
the following
prayer:
Dear God in Heaven,
Thank you for sending
your Son Jesus Christ
to destroy the power of
Satan over my life. I accept
Jesus now as my personal
Savior and Lord, and I choose
to turn away from the sins of
my past to a renewed life in
Jesus.
You said that if I would
confess with my mouth the
Lord Jesus and believe in my
heart that you raised Him
from the dead, that I would
be saved. I believe Jesus died
for my sins and that you
raised Him from the dead for
my benefit. Heavenly Father,
I thank you for the gift of
salvation and for accepting
me now as your child.
In Jesus name, Amen

A Sure-fire Way
You Can Show
Your Love for God
W

By Apostle Frederick K.C. Price

hen I first got saved, I used

to have a problem trying
to relate to the Father and Jesus in an
attitude of love. It was difficult because
I had never seen Jesus or the Father.
Plus, the only way I knew to love was
to tell someone you loved them or show
it by hugging, kissing, holding their
hand, cuddling them, or giving them
something.
I tried telling God that I loved Him,
but I never really felt satisfied that I was
expressing that love. I could say, I love
you, and that was nice for starters, but
that did not suffice by itself. To me,
there had to be some demonstration
that went along with what I said.
One day, I was reading the Word,

EIF MAGAZINE | VOL. 13 ISSUE 1 2016

and I found out how to love God. I

found out how to love Him in a way
that I know I am loving Him, that He
is receiving my love, and that He is
satisfied with my demonstration of
love to Him. Jesus says in the first
part of John 14:21: He who has My
commandments and keeps them, it is he
who loves Me . . . .
I want to draw your attention
on the fact that when Jesus says
commandments, He is not just talking
about the Ten Commandments. If you
think only of the Ten Commandments,
you will shortchange yourself. Anything
God says to do is a commandment. God
does not fool around with suggestions.
He does not mess with reading between

the lines. He tells you directly what

He wants.
When He tells you, its a
command, no ifs, ands, or buts
about it, and the reason we should
do it, according to Jesus, is out of
love. If we love God, we should
make it a point to do what He
commands in John 14:21-23. He
who has My commandments and
keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And He
who loves Me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and manifest Myself
to him.
Judas (not Iscariot)
said to Him, Lord,
how is it that you
will
manifest
Yourself to us,
and not to the
world? Jesus
answered and
said to him, If
anyone loves
Me, he will keep
My word.
That leaves a
whole lot of people
out. If you are doing
Gods Word, you are a tither.
You are not a fornicator, an adulterer
or adulteress, or a gossiper. You are
not lying or stealing. You are doing
everything God tells you to do in His
Word. That also means that you are
seeking the kingdom of God first, and
His righteousness. You have time for
Bible studies. You have time for prayer.
Also notice that Jesus does not use
the word perfect here. We should be glad
about that. If the word perfect were in
this verse, it would leave us all out. Praise
God that word is not there.
Jesus goes on to say in John 14:2324: If anyone loves Me, he will keep My

word; and my Father will love him, and

We will come to him and make our home
with him. He who does not love me does
not keep my words; and the word which
you hear is not Mine but the Fathers who
sent Me.
Notice the progression in verses 2124: commandments, words, sayings. This
is how God interprets your love to Him
not by sending Him a card at Valentines
Day, not by sending Him a box of candy.
Jesus says, If a man loves Me, He will
keep My word. If you love God, you will
do His Word. Jesus also says,
He who does not love
Me does not keep My
words. A person
who does not
love God is
someone who
is not doing
His Word, and
you have to
be the judge
as to whether
or not you are
doing Gods Word.

Loving Us Like He
Loves Jesus

God loves us like He loves Jesus.

What a staggering thought when I
learned about it many years ago, that the
almighty Father God loves me the same
way, with the same quality and degree
of love, that He loved Jesus. I began to
think, What wouldnt the Father do for
Jesus? Nothing. He would do anything
for His Son. Well, if He loves me the same
way He loves Jesus, He will do the same
things for me that He did for Jesus.
That truth will give you an amazing
degree of confidence.
So often in
churches we were left with the idea that
you never knew what God was going
EIF MAGAZINE | VOL. 13 ISSUE 1 2016

to do, that the Lord works in His

mysterious ways, His wonders to
perform. But all you have to do is
read the Word to find out what God
did for Jesus, and have the faith to
believe and receive it for yourself.
Whatever He did for Jesus, He will
also do for you
A scripture that proves all this
is John 17:23: I in them, and You in
Me; that they may be perfect in one, and
that the world may know that You have
sent Me, and have loved them as You
have loved Me.
When the Father loves you, what
can you be afraid of? Who would you

be afraid of when you know you have

the Father on your side and that He
loves you with the same intensity and
degree of love that He loves Jesus?
What good thing did He withhold from
Jesus? None. So if God loves you the
same way He loves Jesus, what good
thing will He withhold from you? None.
That also means you have to ask
yourself, How did Jesus walk before the
Father? Jesus says in the latter part of
John 8:29, . . . I always do those things
that please Him. How do we know
what pleases the Father? By knowing
Gods Word.

Five Signs That

You Need to Drink
More Water
Did you know that your body consist mainly of water?
Its true; two-thirds of your bodys weight is water.
So, doesnt it make sense that water is important
to the body? Yet many people do not drink enough
water daily, and this makes it difficult for the body to
function properly.
Here are five signs, the body is not getting
enough water:

Digestion
problems

Water helps in the digestion

of food. Not drinking enough
water can actually cause
indigestion, constipation,
and other tummy troubles.

Dark
color urine

Joint pain

Dry eyes

Urine should be light yellow

and clear. If it is dark, it is
a sign of dehydration. In
extreme cases, dehydration
can lead to urinary tract
infections.

Pain in the joints can be a

sign of dehydration. Why?
Because your cartilage and
spinal discs are made up of
about 80 percent water.

Cant
shake an
illness

How much water should you drink? As much

as you can. Everyone is different, and so is
the amount of water you need. The Mayo
Clinic recommends 13 cups/3 liters of water
a day for men, and 9 cups/2.2 liters a day
for women.

EIF MAGAZINE | VOL. 13 ISSUE 1 2016

A lack of water in the

body can dry up tear
ducts, causing dry,
bloodshot eyes.

If colds and other sicknesses

hang on too long, it can be
sign that you are not drinking
enough water. Why? Because
water helps flush toxins
out of the body.

BOOK CLUB:

HOW TO BELIEVE GOD

FOR A MATE
By Daniella Masterson

Springtime is often referred to as the
wedding season since many couples will either
announce their engagements or exchange vows
in an elaborate ceremony.

For those of us who are still believing
God for that special one, the book How to
Believe God for a Mate by Apostle Frederick
K.C. Price, is an encouraging study of how to
have a lasting and fulfilling marriage in this
age of infidelity and divorce.

If youre like me, you came
from either a broken or a singleparent home. In our home, we
had a saying about our parents
marriage: It was over when it
began. It would take about 15
years of moving from city to city
before divorce ended my parents
turmoil and rage toward each
other.

My father was in the U.S.
Air Force during the Vietnam
War. The life of a military family
is quite nomadic. Oftentimes in
such homes the wife runs the household as a
single parent for months at a time.

Without a healthy marriage role model,
I was always confused about how to select
an appropriate mate. As a single woman who
hopes to marry someday, this tiny book packed
years of time-tested revelation and clear
guidelines.

For example, how many times have we
ladies been attracted to the bad boy or, for the
men, the sexy lady? Apostle Price dedicated
chapter two to that area. He wrote: . . . I
am not saying that you should not have a pretty
wife or a handsome husband . . . . God knows
what is in the heart, and He know what is inside
of you. The natural is all that we can see but, as
the saying goes, All that glitters is not gold.

Ive learned a valuable lesson of looking

into the heart instead of just the exterior of a

man. Its been a painful journey to see just how
selfish and egotistical those bad boys are. They
will put a woman through some fiery hoops
before she finally wakes up and realizes hes
not worth it.

Apostle Price shares another priceless
jewel of wisdom in this book. He writes that
its okay to thank the Lord daily for your mate.
When you pray, He hears you.
You can trust Him to answer
your prayer, writes Apostle
Price.

We cant simply pray and
claim another person without
their consent. Our heavenly
Father would not give anyone
authority over another persons
free will. We have to wait on the
Lord to direct us. I used to think
that meant to suffer in loneliness
while others enjoyed the fruits
of love and family. No, rather
it means we get busy with the
things of our heavenly Father and develop
ourselves.

What are your interests? Do you enjoy
travel, writing, or cooking? Then do those
things.

Marriage is a divine institution. Maybe
thats why the world fails at it so much. They
dont know the Lords divine order and the
unconditional love of our heavenly Father.

Is it
Worship or
Work-ship?
By Minister Mark A. Peay

ecause of technology and the

ability to be exposed to more, we
have often been accustomed to
feeling the need to work up our
worship. Whether its the rock concertinspired praise service or the sweatinducing Zumba-like praise break of a
fiery Pentecostal revival, worship has
often been mistaken for work-ship.
This is not the plan of God where
worship and praise is concerned. Worship
by nature is a form of communication. It
is us communing with the God of our
salvation and giving Him the honor and
glory due Him.

How difficult is it to speak to someone
on the phone when we are doing intense
labor? Its not easy to have an intelligible
conversation when we are mowing the
lawn or hammering nails into a wall.
Its the same with worship. Our time of
communion with God should be done
from a heart of peace and rest.
Lets take a look at Exodus 33:7-14
in the New International Version of the
Bible to explore this principle further:
Now Moses used to take a tent and
pitch it outside the camp some distance
away, calling it the tent of meeting.
Anyone inquiring of the LORD would go
to the tent of meeting outside the camp.

And whenever Moses went out to the
tent, all the people rose and stood at the
EIF MAGAZINE | VOL. 13 ISSUE 1 2016

entrances to their tents, watching Moses

until he entered the tent.

As Moses went into the tent, the pillar
of cloud would come down and stay at
the entrance, while the LORD spoke with
Moses.
Whenever the people saw the pillar
of cloud standing at the entrance to the
tent, they all stood and worshiped, each
at the entrance to their tent.
The LORD would speak to Moses
face to face, as one speaks to a friend.
Then Moses would return to the camp,
but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did
not leave the tent.
Moses said to the LORD, You have
been telling me, Lead these people, but
you have not let me know whom you will
send with me. You have said, I know you
by name and you have found favor with
me.
If you are pleased with me, teach me
your ways so I may know you and continue
to find favor with you. Remember that
this nation is your people.

The LORD replied, My presence will
go with you, and I will give you rest.

Notice in this text that first there
was worship, Gods presence and rest.
Labor and working up something is
not mentioned here. This is because
as we worship, we become intimately

acquainted with the revelation that His

yoke is indeed easy and His burden is
always light.
At Crenshaw Christian Center in
Los Angeles, my pastor, Frederick Price
Jr. often teaches us about the principle
of the law of first mention in the Bible.
This law states that the truest and purest
intent and context of a word, phrase or
thought is based on the first time that
word is introduced or mentioned in the
Bible. So with that in mind, lets look at
the first mention (and therefore, original
intent and context) of the word worship.
Genesis 22:1-8:

Now it came to pass after these things
that God tested Abraham, and said to
him, Abraham! And he said, Here I
am.
Then He said, Take now your son,
your only son Isaac, whom you love, and
go to the land of Moriah, and offer him
there as a burnt offering on one of the
mountains of which I shall tell you.

So Abraham rose early in the morning
and saddled his donkey, and took two of
his young men with him, and Isaac his
son; and he split the wood for the burnt
offering, and arose and went to the place
of which God had told him.

Then on the third day Abraham lifted
his eyes and saw the place afar off.

And Abraham said to his young men,
Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I
will go yonder and worship, and we will
come back to you.
So Abraham took the wood of the
burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son;
and he took the fire in his hand, and a
knife, and the two of them went together.

But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father
and said, My father! And he said, Here
I am, my son. Then he said, Look, the
fire and the wood, but where is the lamb
for a burnt offering?
And Abraham said, My son, God
will provide for Himself the lamb for a
burnt offering. So the two of them went
together.

It is easy to presume that in all of the

toil, effort and labor that Abraham went
through in the preparation of the sacrifice
on Mount Moriah, the act of worship must
be in the work of Abrahams ministry. The
worship was not in the wood, it was in
the would. It was not in the act but in the
pact. It was in Abrahams willingness to
do the unthinkable; sacrifice his own,
long-awaited and promised son.
The true measure of worship was in
Abrahams knowledge and faith in the
covenant with his God. Because of this,
his worship was rendered acceptable.
Why do I say it was Abrahams faith that
moved God so much? Because when
Abraham said he and Isaac were going to
worship, he spoke it in faith without ever
knowing that God would provide Himself
a sacrifice. That powerful word of faith
in Abrahams heart moved God so much
that He created a miracle and provided
a sacrifice. You see, God did it so that
the faith-filled words of Abraham would
not return to him void. From a place of
rest God does the same for us because,
through Jesus, we have a better covenant
based on better promises.
Our words and hearts of worship are
so powerful that they can affect not only
our present, but also our future and the
future of our loved ones.
Genesis 22: 15- 18:
Then the Angel of the LORD called to
Abraham a second time out of heaven,
and said: By Myself I have sworn, says
the LORD, because you have done this
thing, and have not withheld your son,
your only son, blessing I will bless you,
and multiplying I will multiply your
descendants as the stars of the heaven
and as the sand which is on the seashore;
and your descendants shall possess the
gate of their enemies. In your seed all
the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
because you have obeyed My voice.

worship without a heart behind it.

Another great friend and mentor,
Pastor Bill Johnson said it like this, In
worship, God hears our hearts before He
ever hears our words.
In these days of compressed time and
expanded technology, its easy to hide
behind our works in the arena of worship.
We often take James 2:20 where it says,
But do you want to know, O foolish man,
that faith without works is dead? and use
that as a license to offer up a works-based
worship. However, another law is in effect
here. Its called the law of converse. In
applying this law we can see that faith
without works is dead, but works without
faith are just as dead.

place of rest, then and only then, can God

recharge us with strength to do the work
of the ministry.

The Victorious
Overcoming Life
Apostle Frederick K.C. Price uncovers an abundance of truth in
this brilliant explication of the book of Colossians. The letter,
written by the Apostle Paul to the church at Colossae, gives us
a sense of his love and concern for the church, even though
Paul, writing from a Roman prison, had never seen it.
It is likely that the church was founded by Epaphras, who was
probably converted under Pauls ministry while at Ephesus,
about 100 miles away. The fact that the church was being
challenged by a belief in Gnosticism and other heretical ideas
occasioned Pauls letter.
The letter assures believers of Christs deity, of their citizenship
in the kingdom of God, and of their authority in Christ Jesus.
It refutes false teaching, religious doctrine, worldly thinking,
fleshly lifestyle and the notion that the Bible is a book of secret
knowledge that only a few privileged could understand.

DO NOT BE FAITHLESS
OR UNBELIEVING
D E V O T I O N A L
The day after Jesus fed the five thousand, a discussion began between Jesus and
the Jews. The crowd began questioning Jesus to determine who He was and how He
did His marvelous works. They asked Jesus what other sign He would give them so
they could believe. What could Jesus do to compare with Moses, their greatest leader,
who fed Israel with the bread of heaven for forty years?
Jesus told the people that day, I am the bread which came down from heaven . . .
I am the bread of life (John 6:41-48). But, in the end, the crowd turned away, unable
to receive Jesus or the word He taught.
We can learn several things from the crowd: 1) The crowd had no faith. They
wanted to know how Jesus could exceed Moses. They wanted a greater sign.
However, if you have to see first and then believe, it is not faith. 2) They confused
the hand of God with the hand of man.
They had their eyes on Moses and forgot God their true source and provider. 3)
While looking for natural bread, they turned away from the only One who can truly
satisfy every need of man spirit, soul, and body.

Examples of faith confessions that can be included in your daily prayers.

Tripped Up on the Way to the

Promised Land
By Elder Jeroll Rodgers

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron,
saying, How long shall I bear with this evil
congregation who complain against Me? I
have heard the complaints which the children
of Israel make against Me. Say to them, As I
live, says the Lord, just as you have spoken in
My hearing, so I will do to you: The carcasses
of you who have complained against Me shall
fall in this wilderness, all of you who were
numbered, according to your entire number,
from twenty years old and above. (Numbers
14:26-29)

When Moses led the children of Israel
out of Egypt, their destination was the land of
promise. In order to get to the land of promise,
they had to first go through the wilderness. The
wilderness was only supposed to be temporary,
yet because of disobedience, what God
intended to be temporary became permanent.

God desires for us to live in His promises.
We have a promise of divine healing (1 Peter
2:24), and we have a promise of an abundant
life (John 10:10), but how many Christians are
living in those promises? It is a sad truth that
many believers today are sick, struggling and
falling short of entering into the promises of
God.

Why did the children of Israel not make it
into the land of promise? The children of Israel
were guilty of complaining and doubting. But

what prompted the complaining and doubting?

How could the children of Israel doubt and
complain when they had seen so many great
miracles? Did the Red Sea being divided and
their enemies being destroyed do nothing for
their confidence in God? So often the Bible
says the children of Israel would complain and
doubt. Why was their attitude so poor?

We find in Romans 12:2 that in order to
prove the good, perfect and acceptable will of
God, we must renew our minds. I believe the
reason the children of Israel complained and
failed to trust God through the wilderness is
because while they were physically headed to
the Promised Land, their minds were stuck in
Egypt. The children of Israel never got over the
victim mentality.

When we focus more on the problems
and not the answers, we are just as guilty as
the children of Israel. Renewing our minds to
Gods Word is to focus our attention on the
promises of God. If there is sickness in your
body, then focus on the healing power of
Christ. In times of financial struggles, focus on
Gods provision.

God never intended His children to stay
in challenges and struggles. If we focus on His
Word, which is full of answers and promises,
we will enter into His place of promise. -EIF

The Beauty of
Godly Mothers

By Dr. Betty R. Price

By Dr. Betty R. Price

The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior,

not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good
things; that they admonish the young women to love their
husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste,
homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the
word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5.

he older women must

be reverent in behavior.
That
means
dignified,
honorable, decent, and
worthy of respect. This is how
women need to exercise the
quality of reverence.
Women need to learn not
to be slanderers. Its so easy to
be a gossiper. Slander means
the utterance of false charges
or
misrepresentation
that
defames and damages anothers
reputation; a false accuser, just
malicious gossip.

We need to work on that and
Im going to tell you how to do it.

20

EIF MAGAZINE | VOL. 13 ISSUE 1 2016

We want to stop the gossiping and

running people down because that
is not godliness. The scriptures
tell us that we should not be given
to much wine. Now, we believe in
not being given to any wine. Keep
in mind that in biblical days water
wasnt that good and they drank
wine as a substitute.

However, thats not an excuse
to drink wine today, because we
know that a lot of people start
out drinking wine and become
alcoholics. So my family and I
just made up our minds that we
would not drink any alcohol at
all. The only way someone can

turn into a drunkard is to take

that first alcoholic drink, and we
dont want it to be one of us. Our
desire is to always be an example
to the Body of Christ.

Further, we older women are
to be teachers of good things.
We need to be examples to the
younger people, someone they
can look up to. We are to be
good teachers of good things.
Thats easy because theres
always something to do that is
good. If you see a need, thats a
good thing. We are also to teach
the children, and we can do that
mainly by our lifestyle.
We are to admonish the
young women to love
their husbands. This lets
us know that as young
wives, we dont know
automatically how to love
our husbands.
Young
people think that its all
about feelings and having
a good time, and that its
going to be all fun and games.
Then they get married and find
out they have responsibilities.
To love your husband means to
take care of your husband, do
the things that he needs. Let him
know that you care about him,
whatever he needs, you should
be there doing as a wife.

Today, too many have to learn
this principle because wives just
tell the husband to go get their
own food. But the Bible has not
changed; its just as modern as
ever.

We are to love our children,
and love is not a feeling. Love
is doing. Love is caring. Love
is training. Love is making our
children do when they dont feel
like doing. At times you will have

to stay there and sit on them

to make them do what they are
supposed to do.
I know there will be times
when you would rather just give
up and let them have their way,
especially during the teenage
years. Its very hard because they
think theyre grown when we
know theyre not. I used to have
this saying: Lets freeze them
when they reach 12 to 19 years of
age. Then bring them out of that
tribulation period later.

But we cant do that, so we
have to stay there and train them
and make them do when it seems
as if theyre not learning. The
good news is that they
are taking it in, so when
they grow up they will put
it into practice. This is our
responsibility whether we
get thanks for it or not.
However, at the end you
will see that your efforts
were worth it. When we
do this we love our children.

We are the ones responsible
for training our children in how
to take care of things around
the house such as cleaning their
room. A lot of times, we dont
teach our children these things.
Now, some of us are at the place
where we have someone helping
us with house chores. However,
we still have the responsibility for
teaching our children.
I remember when Frederick
was small and we had gotten
to the place where I needed
a housekeeper. I didnt get a
housekeeper until I needed one,
but I got to the point where I had
a lot to do, so I got a housekeeper
to help me three days a week.
During this time I was trying to

teach Freddie to make his bed, to

be responsible. But on the days
when the housekeeper would
come he wouldnt make his bed.
To train him Id ask, Why
didnt you make up your
bed today? His response
would be, Well, isnt
Anna coming today? Id
say, Yes, Anna is coming
today, but shes not
coming to make your bed.
When you get grown youre not
going to have a maid necessarily
to come and help you. Keep

in mind that I was 45 years old

before I got a maid. Youve got a
few more years to go, so you need
to make your bed.

Mothers, it is our duty
to train the children and
keep the rules before
them. Otherwise, theyll
just go their own way and
they wont know how to
do a thing. I am the first
to tell you that its not
always easy, but in the end it will
be a blessing to you, the child and
society in general. -EIF

Cell Phones and the

Tyranny of Technology
By Steve Perrilloux Jr.

Cell phones have come
a long way from their original
purpose. The functions of
the first cellular phone are
ancient compared to our
current phones. What I love
about technology is that it
will always find ways to make
things more efficient and
effective. Still, technology
can be both a blessing and a
curse.

Technology can be defined
as the use of science to solve
a problem or create a product.
It can also be defined as the application
of scientific knowledge for practical
purposes. Im pretty sure we all have
some sort of gizmo such as cell phones
and video games that we rely on and
enjoy. They are products of technology.
But is technology the modern-day form of
slavery? Are we slaves to our phones?

I consider myself a good observer. I
pay close attention to things and people.
And the thing that is most obvious to me
is number of people who always seem to
have their eyes (or ears) glued to their
phone. Since Im a people person, I get
somewhat annoyed when someone I
know is so zoned out on the phone that
they cant even say hello.

I, too, am a victim of the phone. God
has gifted me uniquely with the ability
to communicate, and because of that I
spend long periods of time on the phone.
People often assume Im listening to
music because my earphones are always
in my ears. But if you see me scrolling
through my phone Im usually reading my

daily meditation or something of

some significance. I try to keep
myself from being on the phone
just to be on the phone.

I recently heard a comedian-Louis C.K., tell how were
sometimes on our phones
because were lonely and
desire someones attention.
He talked about how hes not
in agreement with his kids
having cell phones because
he wants them to interact with
people and build some sort of
empathy.

We need to build an ability to be
ourselves and not be doing anything,
he said. What C.K. means is we should
be able to just sit quietly somewhere
without scrolling our phones all the time.
Just be you. If youre boring, be boring. If
youre loud, be loud. Be whoever you are,
but dont simply depend on your phone to
occupy your time.
I have a friend who was fortunate
enough to land an awesome position at
a talent agency in Beverly Hills, but her
job is very demanding. We used to have
lunch and even dinner together from time
to time, but now shes always on the go,
or just too tired to do anything after work.
Her job requires her to keep her phone
close pretty much all the time just in case
they need to contact her. She then has to
contact them within a certain amount of
time or shes in trouble. I love my friend,
but I couldnt allow any employer to
control me that way, especially during my
off hours.
Unfortunately, that is her present

reality, and many others are experiencing

the same kind of control. In a certain
sense employers are controlling their
lives through technology. But how
was that company operating before
cell phones and other new forms of
communication technology came into
existence? Everyone deserves a break.
Is there ever time for just you and God?

Its probably accurate to say that
many of us spend more time working
for employers off the clock than we do
with God. Somethings wrong with that.
Isnt God the One who blessed us with
jobs in the first place? Now the job
ends up controlling us both on and off
the clock.

My mom used to say, If you take
care of Gods business, then Hell take
care of your business. This would
be her response if told her that my
old employer wanted me to work on
Sundays. As believers, we have to stand
our ground and let the world know who
has priority in our lives. God knows we
need to make a living and provide for
our families. He just wants us to put
things in perspective by putting Him
first. We should be reaching for better
balance and trust Him to make good on
His word. Hes called Jehovah-Jireh, our
provider.

We should use technology, and not
let it use us. -EIF

Q&A with

Apostle and Dr. Betty Price

hurts to see so many women suffering and going

to the wrong sources to satisfy their desire for
love. Christians should not have to do that, but
some believers act just like people who are not
Christians.
If you are searching and dont feel like you
are all that you should be, these scriptures are for
you:
For in Him dwells all the fullness of the
Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him,
who is the head of all principality and power.

Q: feel like Im constantly dealing with the same

issues over and over: rejection, hurt, promiscuity, low
self-esteem and loneliness. How do I get over them
and move on?
Most people suffer from these issues because
they do not know who they are in Christ. You need
to find who you are in Christ. Get into the Bible,
starting from Romans to Jude, and find all the
words that tell you what you have in Jesus Christ.
Then you need to memorize all of them. That
is what I do so that when I need these scriptures
they are in my spirit for me to pull from. It is up
to you to do that, because there are just too many
Christians who are looking for acceptance and
love in the wrong places. That is why my heart
Unless otherwise indicated, scripture
quotations noted above are taken from the
New King James Version of the Bible.

Colossians 2:910
So ladies, you dont need a man to complete
you. You need the Man. You need to think about
Jesus and all that He has done for you. The Man is
not going to take advantage of you.
Yet in all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us.
Romans 8:37
See yourself as more than a conqueror. Dont
go down to the level of the way someone treats
you, making you feel less than who you really
are. Jesus Christ is the One who validates you and
tells you who you are. -EIF

In this teaching, Apostle Price points to scripture that

expresses the character of God as the broad provider.

As Lord, Jesus provides for, sustains, and protects His

of the believers life. Everything that is needed spiritually,
emotionally, financially, and physically is covered by the
