APS 2: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
Planned, correctly stated and matched, Davontaes lesson plans each week were accurate, descriptive, and appropriate
for grade/level. He always submitted them in a timely manner and took my suggestions kindly, accepting them as a
means of learning to improve. He worked closely with his CT to ensure that his plans were faithful to Mr. Hamiltons
intent and time line. I was impressed with the level on which they communicated, Davontae always open to
suggestions and recommendations and Mr. Hamilton eager to teach the young intern.

4.C

APS 4: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
An excellent role model, Mr. Hamilton had previously established great expectations of his students, and Davontae was
able to maintain that momentum. As previously stated, he and his CT worked closely to continue the degree of
expectations of the classroom teacher, and Mr. Hamilton seamlessly passed on that baton to Davontae, who willingly
accepted and did an excellent job. Students were definitely learning in his classroom. Mr. Hamilton would have it no
other way.

APS 5: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
After posting his bellringer on the SmartBoard and having students write, he and the class discussed the question orally.
They were reminded to post their reading questions to Edmodo by Friday, demonstrating the use of technology in the
classroom. He gave the students another writing prompt, and then students discussed their pieces orally. Finally, he
passed out a worksheet divided into columns for students to use to interpret and explain quotations from the play they
were reading. He reviewed the first few examples to get the students started, guiding, demonstrating, and teaching as
they went along.
APS 6 Providing Content for Learners: An effective teacher possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of the
discipline so that he/she is able to provide the appropriate content for learners.
6.A

6.B
The teacher provides appropriate content.
6.C
The teacher structures the content to promote meaningful learning.
APS 6: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
The class had been assigned and was reading Shakespeares Othello, a fairly complex play. I have read and taught the
play, so I was impressed with Davontaes knowledge of the work already. He obviously had prepared and researched
information in advance because he did very well with student questions. In fact, as I told him afterward, he has a gift
for questioning. He constantly monitored students as they worked.

APS 7 Monitoring, Assessing, and Enhancing Learning: An effective teacher maintains a constant awareness of student
performance throughout the lesson in order to guide instruction and provide appropriate feedback to students.
7.A
The teacher continually monitors student learning during instruction by using a variety of informal and
formal
assessment strategies.
7.B
The teacher enhances student learning by using information from informal and formal assessments to guide
instruction.
7.C
The teacher enhances student learning by providing appropriate instructional feedback to all students.
APS 7: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
Davontaes ability to question, asking open-ended questions and responding so well and thoughtfully to his students
questions, generally take much more practice and experience. Davantae questioned throughout, monitoring students
comprehension and assessing their knowledge of the work and the characters. He patiently guided them through the
worksheet at the end, making sure that all student questions were answered and that all his questions to students were
answered and understood.
APS 8 Maintaining an Environment that Promotes Learning: An effective teacher creates and maintains a classroom
environment that encourages and supports student learning.
8.A

8.C
The teacher creates and maintains a culture of learning in his/her classroom.
APS 8: Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
Relaxed, knowledgeable, encouraging, humorous, Davontae certainly created a classroom culture of warmth that
encouraged student participation. He ensured that all students participated (it was a relatively small class), and he
made efforts to make sure that students were collectively learning and applying themselves to the work they were
doing. His personal warmth and wit encouraged the students to relax and enjoy the class without pressure or fear, free
to respond and free to ask when necessary.
APS 9 Managing the Classroom: An effective teacher maximizes instructional time by efficiently managing student behavior,
instructional routines and materials, and essential non-instructional tasks.
9.A
The teacher manages student behavior appropriately.
9.B
The teacher makes maximal use of instructional time.
9.C
The teacher manages essential non-instructional routines in an efficient manner.
APS 9 : Comments/Strengths/Areas to Improve
Because it was a small class, the students could become too comfortable and thus talkative. I was impressed with
Davontaes ability to nip this in the bud, so to speak. Only once did he have to threaten to separate several students
at the same table who because too talkative. Instead of castigating, I saw him high-five a student who gave an excellent
answer to one of his questions. That is the relaxed attitude that he has with his students, and they respect that.
Therefore, rarely will he have discipline issues.
Overall Observation Comments/Recommendations:
Davontae has the energy, colorful personality, wit and confidence to be an outstanding teacher. Under all that, however, he has
intellect, preparation, organization, and content knowledge that will allow him to succeed in the teaching profession. He is
already dedicated to his own success as well as the success of his students. He has great interpersonal skills that will help him
with faculty relationships and especially with students. He is going to be an exceptional young teacher.
