My Philosophy

My passion to care for others progressed whenever I got accepted into the Academy
of Health Careers during high school. Through this program, I became exposed to the
various branches of healthcare and established my passion of wanting to work in the
health field. Proverbs 17:22 states, A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed
spirit dries up the bones. This certain quote has followed me through life because it
describes to me not only the importance of physical health, but also the significance of
mental and emotional health. The way I want to care for others is by becoming a
Physicians Assistant (PA). I am currently interested in the field of orthopedics; however,
I am not precisely convinced what field I want to work in. The population that I wish to
serve is the general public and anyone that is in need of health care. If I worked in an
orthopedics office, I would want to be working with patients that have concerns with
their musculoskeletal system. Not only do I want to improve the orthopedic health of
others, I also want to improve sex education in school systems and in doctors offices.
Sex education to myself is an extremely important subject that is not taught as efficiently
as it should be in the United States, and I wish to play a role in enhancing that.
Public Health enables me to meet my professional passion by laying out an
educational groundwork on the policies and dimensions of health. By taking on the
course load of a public health major and health education minor, I am able to take courses
that are directly centered around healthcare, diseases and health laws, while also
completing courses that are required for physicians assistant school. Public health is
centered on the health of the population as a whole and without knowing the knowledge
that is required to keep this population healthy, there would be no improvement in the
health of our nation. By being apart of public health, I have to follow the Code of Ethics
for Health Educators, which allows for myself to make a difference in the public by
educating, promoting, maintaining, and improving the health of others.
In the past I have graduated from the Academy of Health Careers at Seminole
High School, which is a four-year program that consists of taking health-related classes,
along with regular academics required to graduate. During this program I acquired my
Certified Nursing Assistant certification and CPR certification in Basic Life Support.
During my early college years I have had the privilege of shadowing a Physicians
Assistant for over 200 hours in an orthopedics office. I have also volunteered over 100
hours at the Mayo Clinic in the cardiovascular unit and Orthopedics wing. My short-term
plans for the future include taking advantage of my CNA certification and becoming a
Patient Care Tech at the Mayo Clinic to obtain experience in the health field and getting
accepted into PA school.
