Evidence

What is a map?
How do you read a map?
How do we follow directions to move from one place to
another?

TSWBAT actively listen to a book and answer questions

throughout with 100% accuracy.
TSWBAT read a homemade map and follow the
directions provided (5) that will eventually lead them to
a treasure.

Formative:
After reading the book the teacher will find a surprise
note (left by the pirates)! The students must help the
teacher decipher the meaning of the note and the item
that was left with it (the map) and how they will use it
to find the treasure. The teacher will prompt the
students by asking questions. The student to answer
each question correctly will get to open the next clue.

Summative:
Students will make a map of their house. The students
will be able to answer questions about their map and
the different places of their homes when asked by a
teacher. The students will be given a worksheet with
questions asking how many bedrooms, bathrooms,
hallways, windows are in their homes, and whether or
not they have a dining room. After the students answer
these questions on their own the teacher will take a poll
to find the average of each question among all of the
students in the class.
Engage students with the real world data, tools, and
experts they will encounter in college, on the job, and
in life--students learn best when actively engaged in
solving meaningful problems.
Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders:
A positive behavior support will be put in place by using
the hidden treasure. If a student is off task or is not
following directions they can lose their chance of
receiving a Hersheys Bar when they are finished with
their work.
Students will be required to respond to questions
throughout the reading to help to make sure that
everyone stays on task.
