University of Dayton
The University of Dayton, founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, remains a private
coeducational school. The school expresses the motto, Pro Deo et Patria meaning, For God
and for Country, as it takes immense pride in its religious community. However there is more to
the school than the holy expanse. The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for
success in post baccalaureate life because of its exceptional academic opportunities, ideal student
body size, and remarkable Marianist community.
The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for success in post
baccalaureate life because of its exceptional academic opportunities. It offers a multiplicity of
majors which would behoove one much like myself. One who has maybe started thinking about
life after high school, but does not know what career they want to pursue. Additionally, there is
ample opportunity at the school to study abroad and take up internships through the school. As
a comprehensive university, we commit ourselves: to educating students within a vibrant
learning community; to strong programs in both liberal arts and sciences and the professional
disciplines; to collaboration across disciplinary and organizational boundaries. Another strong
belief of the school is learning not only by studying, but doing. They encourage student to go out
and create real things in the real world. For example they offer partnerships with doctors and
engineers to assist in making medicines and machines.

school to college, students must attain the people skills necessary later in life. A small school

where friendships come easily and where one will be talking to the same people all of the time
will not benefit the students in their ability to interact with others. However at the same time, one
would find themselves miserable at a school so big they would get lost. The University of
Dayton serves perfectly with a student body size of 11,000. Also, the student to faculty ratio is
15:1. This student to faculty ratio makes the students feel like the University of Dayton is a
welcoming family atmosphere. This website states, The student satisfaction is 88.5 percent,
which is ranked very high nationally.
The University of Dayton maintains the ability to set one up for success in post
baccalaureate life because of its remarkable Marianist community. Students like myself would
appreciate this aspect coming from a Marianist high school. The schools thoughts on their
beliefs include the following, We strongly believe that education can transform society if people
work together in a common mission. We encourage students to use their education and faith to
work for justice, serve others, and, yes, even change the world. To withstand the Marianist
identity and values of the school, the decision was made to educate the leaders of the school on
Marianists beliefs so their educational philosophy could continue.

having some new talent or opportunity presented to them. They have developed the opportunity
that was at hand. Likewise one can develop the opportunity at hand by attending the University
of Dayton. The school offers many opportunities in academics and also in making relationships
with not only others, but with God.
