Freedom Middle School Lesson Plan

We are... Lifelong Learners, Effective Communicators, Critical Thinkers

SOL(s):

8.14 The student will make connections between any two

representations (tables, graphs, words, and rules) of a given
relationship.
8.15 The student will
a) solve multistep linear equations in one variable on one and two
sides of the equation;
b) solve two-step linear inequalities and graph the results on a
number line; and
c) identify properties of operations used to solve an equation.
8.16 The student will graph a linear equation in two variables.

8.17 The student will identify the domain, range, independent

variable or dependent variable in a given situation.
Objective(s): The student will be able to

Materials needed:

The student will be able to make connections between graphs,

tables, and equations.
The student will be able to solve multistep equations with
variables on both sides of the equation.
The student will be able to solve and graph two-step inequalities.
The student will be able to justify solving equations and
inequalities with properties.
The student will be able to graph a linear equation, create a table,
and write the equation.
The student will be able to identify the domain, range, IV, and DV
in several different situations.
The student will demonstrate their knowledge of equations,
inequalities, properties, and functions on an assessment.

Kahoot, computers (at least one cart);

stations- equations, inequalities,
properties, functions; recording sheets
(100), vocab review (100).

Warm-Up/Opener/Review/Prior Knowledge:

Math Month, 24 game, and date

Can you put the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 into the squares so that no two consecutive numbers are in joining
squares? HINT: Consecutive numbers are numbers that are in order. E.g. 1, 2 or 6, 7.
______ - ______ - _____________
_________
Date: Today is a perfect square day. Why? [April 4, 4x4=16]
24 Game: 2, 3, 4, 6
Presentation/Activities/Guided/Independent Practice:

1. Date and 24 game

2. Kahoot
Vocabulary review
Students will work in pairs or individually to play this review game.
FMS 3rd 9 Weeks Vocabulary on kahoot.
3. Stations- Review

Students will rotate and complete five stations as a review for their 3rd nine weeks
assessment.
Stations: equations, inequalities, properties, functions, matching.
Students will be completing these stations as well as drawing a landscape if they choose.
Each station has a choice of three problem sets. At each station, students will choose which
set of problems they want to complete. Each comes with a different image that will be
included in their landscape.
4. Homework
Vocab review
3rd nine weeks review
Closure:

Summarize what we did and what students need to remember for their assessment next class.
