Poetry Assignment

Task:
Choose 2 poems from your poetry booklet to revise, edit, and
publish to be marked. Choose poems that you enjoyed writing and feel
passionate about. Reread them numerous times aloud to yourself and to
classmates for their feedback and make sure you edit for spelling, grammar,
punctuation, imagery, rhyme scheme (if necessary), and poetic devices. In
addition to your 2 poems, you also need to write a paragraph
explaining why you chose these specific poems and what poetic
devices, literary devices, or interesting artistic choices you made
with them. In your paragraph, you will self-evaluate your poetry and
explain to me what you did in your poems that make them exemplary and
unique!
You can choose from the following poems:
Sensory Colour Poem
Haiku
Limerick
Free Verse
Concrete
Acrostic
Helpful hints:
- If your poem has a specific rhyme scheme/structure/rules have you
followed the form? DOUBLE CHECK
- Have you used literary devices discussed in class? (simile, alliteration,
hyperbole, imagery, etc)
- Can you edit or change any of the wording to be more descriptive,
imaginative, or juicy?
- Does your poem sound nice when read aloud-or are there words that
dont seem to flow?
- Can you do anything else interesting with your poem? Such as adding
images, colour, changing the layout on the page, or adding your own
personality to it?
