Observation # 3

1. Identify

18 months/30-early 40s
diapering
4:30 p. m.

2. Observation notes I observe a caregiver changing a childs diaper. The caregiver talk to the
child while changing her diaper. The changing table had all the supplies. There was a diaper
pail next to the changing table. She lotion the child and describe everything she did while
changing the child. The child was babbling while the caregiver talk to her. The caregiver
communicate back and forth with the child. After changing the child the caregiver took the
child to the sink to wash her hands. She explain how to wash her hands step by step. The child
did not want to turn the water off.

How was the interaction respectful? If it wasnt, what could have been said or done to make it
so? Yes. The caregiver communicate describe what she was doing while changing the child
diaper.
How was the interaction responsive? If it wasnt, what could have been said or done to make
it so? Yes. The caregiver made eye contact while talking to the child changing the childs
diaper.
How was the interaction reciprocal? If it wasnt, what could have been said or done to make
it so? Yes. The caregiver communicate back and forth while changing the childs diaper and
washing her hands.

5. Describe the Principle in Action: I observe a caregiver interacting with a child during diaper
changing. The caregiver respect the child because she explain what she was going to do
before she did it. She talk to the child the whole time while changing her. The caregiver took her
time while changing the child. She showed the child respect while communicating with her, she
would let the talk to the child and waited until the child finish battling before she started talking.
While changing the child she lotion the child. All hands the supplies the caregiver needed was
on the side of the changing table. The caregiver never left the child. After she change the
childs diaper she dress the child. Then the caregiver and the child went to the sink to wash their
hands. While washing their hands the caregiver explain the steps to hand washing.
The caregiver showed the child respect by communicating with her while changing her diaper.
She showed the child respect by describing everything she was going to do before she did it.
She respect the child by using wipes and lotion to clean the child. She respect the child by
communicating back and forth with the child. The child didnt cry while getting her diaper
change. The child seem happy while getting her diaper change. The caregiver dress the child
and then went to wash both of their hands. This was a great experience. I like the way she
interact with the child while changing her diaper and washing the childs hands.

After changing the infant diaper the caregiver dresses her and stand her up while still
talking to her
