onthestreetsbeggingstrangersforthenecessitiessuchasfood,andclothing.Thechildrenoften
begformoneyaswelltohelpoutfamilyliketheirsiblings,parents,andgrandparents.Studies
showthatmorethanlikelythechildrenbegbecauseofadisabilityinthefamilythatmakesit
hardertogetthenecessitiesfortheirfamily.Asourcefoundoninspireclearedupwhychildren

Emotionalandmentalabusemayevenoccurmorethansexualorphysicalabuse.Many
secondaryschoolsshowtheresultsoftheamountofabusethistheschoolsystems.Secondary
schoolstudentsinedostateNigeriawereinterviewed.ManychildrenattendingEdostatewere
showntohavesignsofabuse.Abusecomesindifferentforms.Justbecausetheremaynotbe
physicalabuse,doesnotmeanthatmentalabuseisnotoccurring.Theresultsshowedtheamount
ofemotionalabuse.74.7percentofthechildreninterviewedweresaidthattheamountof
rejectionwashardforthem.82.8percentofthechildrenweresaiddiscriminationwastaking
place.66.4percentsaidtheteachersweredegrading.83.3percentofthechildrensaid
dominating.86.2percentofthestudentssaidthattheyweregettingterrorized.33.6percentwere
showntobeisolated.69.0percentwerebeingignoredbytheirteachers.And74.2percentwere

CouldreligionhaveapartinchildabuseinNigeria?Nigeriaconsistsofmorethanhalf

childrenwereabusedinsomeform.73percentofthechildrenweremale,andtheother27%were
female.The95percentofthemaremuslims,andFivepercentwereofindigenousreligious
groups.Doesthatsaysomethingforthemuslims?ResearchshowsthatinNigeria,childrenare
beingaccusedofbeingwitches.Thechildrenarebeingbranded.Themembersofthe
christianchurchesaretryingtodeliverthechildrenbeforethewitchcraftbecomesoutofhand.

Thechildrenarebeingtreatedlikewitches,untiltheygettheevilpresentsoutofthem.A
newscastinnigeriashowschildrenwereabusedbytheirparents.Beingbeatenwithbrooms,
hoovers,andwires,claimingtheywerepossessedbyevil.Dothechildrenevenknowthatthey
arebeingabused?Ordotheyonlythinktheygetwhattheydeserve?Itisahardquestiontoask.
Notmanyknowbutthechildrenthemselves.Thisshowsthatabuseisfoundinevenreligious
forms.

Sexualabusetakesplaceeverywhereintheworld.Notmanycases,howeverarefiledin
Nigeria.Therecordsof28casesofsexualchildabusewererecordedinJanuary2010tomarch
2013.(Obitunya,248)Thereareveryfewcasesthatgetrecorded.Intheunitedstatesthree
millioncasesofsexualchildabusearerecordedinoneyearonaverage.Bu,inNigeria,there
wereonly28casesinthespanoffouryears.In2010therewere2casesfiled.(Sevenpointone
percent)In2011,howeverthesecondmostcaseswerefiled.Therewere9childsexualabuse
filesrecorded.(32.1percent)Therewerethirteencasesfiledin2012.Thus,beingthelargest
amountofreportstheyhavefaced.(46.4percent)In2013thereportsgodownto4.(Fourteen
pointthreepercent)Thequestionastohowmanypeopledonotreportthesexualchildabuse,we
willneverknowtheanswer.

Therearedifferentformsinchildabuse.Anywherefrommentaltosexual.Researchshows
thatNigeriamaybemoresuperiorthantheunitedstatesinchildabuse.Wecanresearchour
brainstomushtofindstatisticsandthefacts,butwewillneverknowthefulltruth.Noteveryone

willadmittotheirchildbeingabused.Andyoucannotalwaysexpectachildtotellthetruthif
somethinghappens.
