"FDR Creates the WPA." History.com. A&E Television Networks, n.d. Web. 26 Feb. 2016.
(FDR Creates the WPA)
This source is a web article that explains how the Works Progress Administration came to
exist and how it has helped America push through the Great Depression. The article
described the Works Progress Administration as, just one of many Great Depression
relief programs created under the auspices of the Emergency Relief Appropriations Act,
which Roosevelt signed the month before In return for monetary aid, Works Progress
Administration workers built highways, schools, hospitals, and playgrounds. The
Carolinas Aviation Museum originally started as an airport built as a result of the Works
Progress Administration. The web articles strength is that it provides a detailed history
on the Works Progress Administration. I do not believe there are any weaknesses.
This article will be used to provide the background and history of the Carolinas Aviation
Museum. In addition to that, the audience will understand what the Works Progress
Administration is. The author of the article is listed as History.com Staff, so I could not
find out who exactly wrote the article, however the staff is most likely knowledgable on
this topic as they have posted plenty of articles on history. History.com is a credible
source due to its years of researching and broadcasting history. After all, the History
Channel has been praised for their presentation and detailed information on the topics
they cover.
"Airplane Crash-lands into Hudson River" CNN. Cable News Network, 15 Jan. 2009. Web. 27
Feb. 2016.
(Airplane Crash-lands into Hudson River)
This article is about US Airways Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River while
heading to Charlotte from New Yorks LaGuardia airport. According to the article, a US
Airways plane with 155 people on board ditched into a chilly Hudson River on Thursday,
apparently after striking at least one bird upon takeoff from New York's LaGuardia
Airport, according to officials and passengers. This article explains the history of one of
the aircrafts that have become a part of the Carolina Aviation Museum. The articles
strength is that it provides a description of the event as well as pictures to illustrate it.

Nguyen 2

The article will give the audience an insight as to what kind of aircrafts the museum
features as well as provide history of the aircraft itself. The author was not listed on the
article, however CNN is one of the largest news organizations. CNN is a credible news
source with exceptions to its political news coverage since there are biases.
"The Breakthrough Concept." Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. N.p., n.d. Web. 28
Feb. 2016.
(The Breakthrough Concept)
The article consists of the history of the Wright Brothers and how their first airplane
came to exist. It documents how it started, how they were influenced, the progress, how
each parts of the machine works, and the creation of the airplane itself. For example, the
creation of the Wright Flyer started when the Wright Brothers realized the importance
wing-warping which is how birds fly. The Wright Flyer is a part of the civil aircraft
exhibit at the Carolinas Aviation Museum. The articles strength is that it provides several
pages of information regarding the Wright Brothers. It also has details about how they
started their journey.
This article will give the audience the history of the Wright Brothers and the very first
aircraft created. The author was not listed on the website. Although, the official website
belongs to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum which is a research center
regarding the history and science of aviation and spaceflight, so I would assume it is
credible.
Diana, John. "Carolinas Aviation Museum - CAM History." Carolinas Aviation Museum - CAM
History. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.
(Diana)
The article is the history of how the museum itself came to be. The article describes how
the museum started as a small airport by the Works Progress Administration and then it
eventually evolved into a museum. According to the article, the airport started off as a
hangar, an administrative building, a beacon tower, and three runways, two of which were
3,000 feet long with the remaining one being 2,500 feet long. The small airport was
originally going to be demolished as a new and larger one was constructed, but Floyd
Swinton Wilson and his wife Lois saved it. The strength of this article is that it provides
the history of the museum which was extremely difficult to find anywhere else.
The article contributes, because it is about the history of the Carolinas Aviation
Museum. The only information provided is the author name, I could not verify the
credibility. However, the information is provided by Carolinas Aviation Museum, so I
would assume it is a reliable source.
"Wright Brothers." History.com. A&E Television Networks, n.d. Web. 28 Feb. 2016.

(Wright Brothers)
This is another article pertaining to the first plane ever created. The article explains how
the Wright Brothers went from a newspaper business to a bicycle business to developing
an airplane. According to History.com, When Lilienthal died in a glider crash, the
brothers decided to start their own experiments with flight. Determined to develop their
own successful design, Wilbur and Orville headed to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, known
for its strong winds. This articles strength actually provides the history of both brothers
and it actually documents what they did before they started creating the first airplane.
The article will provide additional information regarding the history the Wright Brothers
and the very first aircraft. This is part of an exhibition in the Carolinas Aviation Museum
so it holds importance. The author was not listed, however History.com is a credible
source as it is known for documenting history and presenting it to an audience via
television for several years.
"Dolphin Dunnaha Overton III Obituary." Dolphin Overton Obituary. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Feb.
2016.
(Dolphin Dunnaha Overton III Obituary)
The obituary speaks about the achievements and events that have occurred in Overtons
life. He was part of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had love for historical
airplanes and cars. By 1999, Overton had acquired and restored over 90 aircraft,
donating most to museums and institutions around the United States and abroad including
the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Overton heavily impacted aviation
museum and one of those museums would be the Carolinas Aviation Museum. This
obituary weakness is that it is hard to tell whether the site is credible.
It was difficult acquiring information regarding Overton, so I ended up looking at an
obituary. The article will provide information behind the name of the Dolph Overton
Aviation Library. The author was not listed on the website and I am also not quite sure
whether the website is credible. I could not find any information about Tribute.com.
"Aviation Museums." Visit NC. N.p., n.d. Web. 29 Feb. 2016.
(Aviation Museums)
The website basically highlights the different aspects of each museum located in the state
of North Carolina. The website stated that the museums collection showcases military,
civilian and commercial aircraft, helicopters, equipment, gadgets and historic documents
and materials covering decades of aviation history. You can enjoy interactive displays and
even climb into the pilots seat of an F4 Phantom. The websites weakness is that it lists
a small amount of information regarding Carolinas Aviation Museum.

Nguyen 4

This website will be useful in describing what the museum features. However, the
credibility of this website is questionable as it does not provide the author, the date
published, or the proper name of the website on the header. It seems to just be a tourist
website.
East, Omega G. Wright Brothers National Memorial, North Carolina. Washington, D.C: National
Park Service, 1963. Internet resource.
(East)
The book is another source regarding the history and progress of the Wright Brothers in
creating the first airplane. One of the chapters I was interested in was the chapter of why
they chose Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Originally, the brothers are from Ohio, but they
were looking for a place to test their airplanes. According to the book, after a study of
wind records obtained from the Weather Bureau at Washington, the Wrights decided that
Kitty Hawk, N.C., seemed to meet their requirements better than any other place within
that distance from their home. The weakness of this book is that it was written forty
years ago.
This source would provide additional background information pertaining to the Wright
Brothers who have significantly impacted the history of airplanes. The book was
published in 1963, so it may be outdated, though it is by the U.S. National Park Service,
so it may be accurate.
The Economic Impact Of Travel On North Carolina Counties." NC Tourism Research
Economic
Impact TEIM. N.p., n.d. Web. 29 Feb. 2016.
(The Economic Impact Of Travel On North Carolina Counties)
The website showed statistics about the impact of tourism on the state of North Carolina,
specifically in the Mecklenburg county where Carolinas Aviation Museum is located.
According to the report, domestic tourism in Mecklenburg County generated an
economic impact of $4,610.04 million in 2013. This was a 4.66 % change from 2012.
Also, more than 46,530 jobs in Mecklenburg County were directly attributable to travel
and tourism. The websites strength is that it has several statistics regarding the state of
North Carolina.
Carolinas Aviation Museum is a part of the tourism industry, so this source should
indicate how the Carolinas Aviation Museum impacts the state of North Carolina along
with other tourism spots. The source is credible as the statistics are provided by the
Research Department of the US Travel Association for the N.C. Department of
Commerce.

(Carolinas Aviation Museum)

The video describes the Carolinas Aviation Museum in a matter of three minutes. The
video will show what the museum looks like. The staff is also knowledgeable and will
give you detailed information about each flight. There are also volunteers that will
describe their experiences and history with the aircraft they may have been on before. For
example, there is a survivor from the Miracle on Hudson volunteering there and she will
give you her account of the experience. The strengths of this video would be that it
provides personal accounts from the workers and that it kind of provides a tour as well
for the audience.
The video will give the audience a glimpse of what the museum looks like and also who
exactly works there. The video is credible as it features the actual workers from the
museum. It is also recorded at the airport itself professionally.
