TheKarnataka2016Summitattractedmegainvestmentproposalsontheopeningday,withthewhoswhoofcorporateIndia,
includingAnilAmbani,AzimPremji,GautamAdaniandRatanTata,liningupbigplansforthestate.
WhileRelianceGroupchairmanAnilAmbaniannouncedsettingupacentreforresearch,developmentandinnovationin
aerospaceinBengaluru,AdaniGroupchiefGautamAdanilaidoutplanstoinvestRs21,000croreinportsandrenewableenergy
inthestate.
TheproposedR&Dcentre,tobesetupunderRelianceDefence,willgenerateover1,500highlyskilledjobs.Investmentdetails
werenotdisclosed.
Whilewearetalkingaboutfifthgenerationfighteraircraft,sixthgenerationtechnologiesarealreadyfindingapplications.For
Indiatoemergeasastrongmilitarypower,itisimportantthatwecutdownourdependenciesonmilitaryhardware,Ambani
said.
Itisevenmoreimportantthatwestartdevelopinganddesigningcuttingedgesystems.Giventheemergingscenarios,whereair
powerwillplayadecisiveroleinanyconflictsituation,aerospacetechnologiesweretheobviouschoiceforus.
TheRelianceGrouphassofarinvestedRs5,000croreinKarnatakaacrosssectors,rangingfromtelecomtoenergyto
entertainmenttofinancialservicesanddefence.
Speakingatthesummit,Adanisaid:WeareinvestingRs11,500croreforincreasingthecapacityofUdupiPowerCompany
from1,200MWto1,600MW.Whenthisexpansionhappens,itwillcaterto20millionhouseholds.
ThegroupalsoplanstoinvestRs500croretoexpanditscoalhandlingcapacityinthestate.
WeplantoinvestRs7,000croretosetupa1,000MWsolarplantinKarnataka,Adaniadded.
Earlierintheweek,KarnatakachiefministerSiddaramaiahsaidthelatesteditionoftheglobalinvestorsmeetwillendwith
MoUsworthRs2.5lakhcroresignedbyvariousIndianandglobalbusinesses,twicetheRs1.3lakhcroregarneredduringthe
lastsummit.
PitchingKarnatakaasthecentreofhightechnology,includingITandaerospace,TataGroupchairmanemeritusRatanTatasaid:
Karnatakadefinitelyisoneofthemajorplacesoneshouldlookatwhilemakinginvestments.
WiprochairmanAzimPremjisaidthesoftwaremajorwillhire25,000moretechiesinKarnataka,especiallyBengaluru.Wewill
add25,000moreITjobsinKarnatakawhereweemployover55,000peopleandareexpandingeachofourbusinesses.
