Dear Mrs. Barbara Derricotte,

I am contacting you to express my interest in the University of Georgias Graduate program for Child
life. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia and I am passionate about
the Child Life profession. Currently I am Human Development major and I have found this to be my
passion. Through the program the University of Georgia offers I would be able to pursue a career in
Child Life and work in a field I am passionate about.

Throughout college I have gained experience that would make me a great candidate for the Child Life
graduate program. I have taken a course focused on hospitalized children and their families and a
course about Child Life interventions. In the hospitalized child and family course I acquired the
knowledge about how to interact with families and children while they are hospitalized and how to
meet them where they are developmentally to properly improve their hospital visit. In my Child Life
interventions course I not only acquired the ability to create therapeutic activities but also gained
valuable shadowing hours.

I love that in the Child Life profession I would be able to utilize my ability to work in a fast paced
environments and use my creative mind to come up with therapeutic activities. I am passionate
about patient care and advocating for children when they are not able to advocate for themselves. I
feel strongly that improving patient care can produce better outcomes for patients and reduce costs
for hospitals.
