knowledge in meaningful ways.
Artifact: Demo Lesson
Date of Completion: April 14, 2016
Course Completed in: EDUC 230 01 Education Field Experience
Rationale Statement:
This artifact is a lesson I created to teach to my Field Experience class. I decided to teach
the timeline of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. This demo lesson directly correlates to
Performances 8.8 that states the teacher uses a variety of instructional strategies to support and
expand learners communication through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and other modes.
My lesson consists of different instructional strategies. I use writing and group work in my
anticipatory set in which I require students to fill in and put a timeline of events in order with
their group members. I have my students listen during my lecture. I have pictures and video on
my PowerPoint slides to help bring the history to life. Lastly, although it may not be a mode of
instruction, I decided to bring in an actual artifacts from the week Kennedy was killed. I brought
in the actual newspapers that were published during the week. I did this to again bring the history
alive and show the students something they may never have seen.
I learned how long it took to create an actual lesson. Gathering and putting together all
the materials took longer than I anticipated. I had to make the timeline pieces for the anticipatory
set, search through my newspaper copies to find the perfect pages to show to the class and put
together my PowerPoint. I had to make sure I included all the necessary details of the day while
keeping it as engaging as I could. I also learned how nerve-wracking putting together a lesson
plan is because I'm excited to see if the students will be engaged and enjoy the lesson but also if
it will be beneficial in educational terms.

This is definitely a lesson I would LOVE to teach one day. I loved learning about this
event when I was in high school. I have been to Dallas, been to the spot Kennedy was shot and
been to the museum. I loved it so much and I knew I wanted to teach it as soon as I could and
this is my first shot. I will definitely keep these lesson materials and plans to utilize when I
hopefully teach this lesson.
