Thank You Letter/Email Assignment

1. According to emilypost.com, its never wrong to send a thank you note and everyone
appreciates receiving thanks. A thank you is always best in person, but hand written is
the next best choice of thanking someone, followed by an e-mail or phone call. Thank
you notes should be written within three months of the reason for sending the note.
2. People no longer write personal thank you notes because of the availability of technology
such as texting or emailing.
3. Emily Post is a writer of expertise in manners and good social behavior.
4. A thank you note should be written in a professional setting when an interview, pay raise,
promotion, or professional advice is given. A thank you note for a personal occasion
should be written for gifts, condolences, and congratulations and similar types of
situations.
5. In a professional setting I have lacked sending emails when I now know that I should
have written them, but most of the time I was able to see the people deserving a thank
you on the next working day.
6. A cc stands for carbon copy and when used in an email everyone in the to and cc
section will see who received the email. A bcc stands for blind carbon copy and
excludes people in the to and cc from seeing who received the email in the bcc. A
cc should be used in a business setting when all recipients know each other and who
the email is being directed towards, and a bcc should be used for a situation of a
mailing list in which the recipients do not know each other.

7. An email subject should be short and simple while being direct with what the email is
about or contains. It is inappropriate to use all caps, start a sentence that will be finished
in the body of the email, and using filler words.
8. It is important to learn to write a professional email because it is an effective way to
communicate tasks, thank you notes, and communicate to large groups of people in an
efficient time.

Dear Mr. Onyon,
I am writing this letter to thank you for the History 1302 class that I attended in the spring
of 2015, and also as an assignment for English 2311.

I am currently attending my last semester at Navarro College for Pre-Engineering. For

this English assignment I have been asked to write to an instructor that has made a
positive impact on my life, and I chose to write to you because your class was the most
exciting class I have ever attended.
I really appreciated how interesting you made Post Civil War American history. I looked
forward to coming to your class each week, as I knew there was something new to learn
and that you valued everything that you taught the class.
Sincerely,
Brandon Estes
