Lemi Ponifasio es una de las personalidades artísticas
más relevantes de Nueva Zelanda, absoluto pionero en
la evolución de la danza y teatro contemporáneo del
Pacífico. Sus creaciones afrontan de manera radical dife-
rentes lenguajes como la oratoria o las artes visuales, y
conforman un estado de ritual y ceremonia
rebosante de significados.
Con “Tempest II”, tercera parte de la trilogía que incluye
“Paradise” y “Réquiem”, el fundador y director artístico
de MAU se inspira en la geografía de la obra de Shakes-
peare y en el pensamiento del filósofo contemporáneo
Giorgio Agamben, para mostrarnos un diálogo reivin-
dicativo de los derechos humanos. Acercarse a este
apasionante itinerario supone descubrir por primera vez
en un escenario de nuestro país, después de un alto en
el reputado Kunstenfestivaldesarts, a Lemi Ponifasio, un
artista que gusta de bucear en las metáforas
de nuestro ser colectivo.

Lemi Ponifasio is one of the most outstanding artistic
personalities of New Zealand, an absolute pioneer in
Pacific dance and contemporary theater. His creations
radically confront different languages like oratory and
visual arts, and make up a ritual and ceremonial state
full of meaning.
In “Tempest II”, the third part of the trilogy that
includes “Paradise” and “Requiem”, the founder and
artistic director of MAU is inspired in the geography
of the work of Shakespeare and in the thoughts
of contemporary philosopher Giorgio Agamben, to
show us a recoverable dialogue of human rights.

lenguajes. Street Dance y Top Rock se funden en una
combinación formidable e inagotable que permanece
en constante diálogo con el espacio, la calle, con la
vida en su esencia.
La formación que lidera el coreógrafo brasileño Bruno
Beltrão y su excepcional grupo de intérpretes vuelven
a Salamanca con una coproducción del Festival Inter-
nacional de las Artes para sorprendernos de nuevo con
esas formas tan radicales, y cercanas, de entender el
cuerpo y sus razones.

enveloping communicative motion of their prior show,

Alpo Aaltokoski es una de las grandes estrellas del Festival
y tiene una dilatada experiencia profesional al más alto
nivel. Considerado como el mejor coreógrafo de Finlandia,
se presenta por primera vez en España
con dos sugestivas obras.
“Deep”, un solo del propio coreógrafo, realizado en colabo-
ración con la artista multimedia Milla Moilanen, combina
una actuación de danza en directo con animación compu-
terizada. En esta obra, las cualidades de Aaltokoski como
intérprete y coreógrafo se ponen de manifiesto de manera
exquisita. Su cuerpo toma diferentes formas que cautivan
la atención del espectador.
En “Trio”, tres bailarines aislados en un mundo oscuro
se comunican por medio de la danza, que es la voz de su
personalidad. La interacción entre los bailarines es lo más
sugerente en una obra delicada y sorprendente.
Emociones y sentimientos a flor de piel.
“Deep” es un estudio deliciosamente múltiple de la
estrecha relación entre el cuerpo humano y otras especies
de animales y organismos vivos. La metamorfosis del
bailarín tanto en escena como en las animaciones por
ordenador de Milla Moilanen son asombrosas pero a la vez
sutiles, casi inapreciables.

Alpo Aaltokoski is one of the biggest stars of the Festival
and has a great deal of professional experience. He
is considered to be one of the best choreographers in
Finland, and is presenting his work for the first time in
Spain, bringing two evocative productions.
“Deep”, a solo by the choreographer, done in
collaboration with the multimedia artist Milla Moilanen,
combines a live dance performance with computer
animation. In this production, Aaltokoski’s skills as an
actor and a choreographer are exquisitely demonstrated.
His body takes on different shapes which captivate
the audience’s attention.
In “Trio”, three dancers isolated in a dark world
communicate through dance, becoming the voice of
their personality. The interaction between them is the
most suggestive part in the delicate and surprising play,
leaving emotions and feelings on edge.
“Deep” is a delightfully multifaceted study of the
close relation between the human body and other
animal species and living organisms. - The dancer’s
metamorphoses both on stage and in the computer
animations by Milla Moilanen are astonishing, and at the
same time subtle, almost unnoticeable.

El multiculturalismo fluye por las venas de Accrorap.
Fundada por Kader Attou y Eric Mezino, la formación
de procedencia francesa pero repleta de bailarines e
intérpretes de diferentes etnias, parte de la cultura hip
hop para adentrarse admirablemente en otras formas
artísticas. La sabia combinación de estilos y el diálogo
espectacular entre culturas la convierten en una de
las más originales del momento. Con estas “Petites
Histories.com”, el coreógrafo nos deja entrever algunas
de sus ensoñaciones y, como si de un cortometraje en
vivo se tratase, borra lo superfluo, llega a lo esencial y
busca un efecto de sorpresa. A descubrir por primera
vez en nuestros escenarios después de un exitoso iti-
nerario con este último trabajo estrenado en Suresnes
a comienzos del 2008.
Accrorap, como su nombre indica, está basada en el rap
y el hip hop. Una base con frecuencia “espectacular”,
muy entretenida si se comienza a mezclar los géneros,
la música clásica, el acordeón, etc.

into his dreams, as if it were through a live short film,
where he gets rid of the superfluous and gets to the
essential, looking to cause surprise. This performance
is to be discovered on our stages for the first time
after completing a successful itinerary, debuting in
Suresnes at the beginning of 2008.
Accrorap, as its name indicates, is based on rap
and hip hop. A base with a “spectacular” and very
entertaining frequency mixes styles of classical
music, the accordion, etc.

“Wewilllivestorm” es teatro sin palabras, y casi sin música.
Tres personas ocupan la escena: el propio Verdonck, su
padre y su amigo músico. Entre ellos intentan adentrar
al espectador en una experiencia sensorial, dentro de un
escenario plagado de objetos inútiles, recogidos arbitra-
riamente. El actor no emite palabras; a cambio intenta
que los objetos hablen por sí mismos, y ello a través de
una interacción continua, los manipula, los mueve y los
transforma. El caballito de juguete, la caja de cartón y los
barquitos de papel no son el símbolo de una realidad fuera
del escenario, sino la realidad en sí misma. Los gestos de
los actores, deliberadamente acentuados por la ausencia
de palabras, subrayan una también deliberada falta de
narrativa que es la propia visión del director. La delicada y
sensible visibilidad de las pequeñas cosas en estado puro.
La genialidad está en la sencillez. Y eso es
“Wewilllivestorm” de Benjamin Verdonck:
sencilla y sin pretensiones.

“Wewilllivestorm” is theater without words and almost
without music. Three people are on the stage: Verdonck
himself, his father and his musician friend. They try to
bring the spectator through a sensorial experience, on
a stage plagued with useless objects, brought together
arbitrarily. The actor does not say a word; instead he
tries to make the objects speak for themselves, and
through a continual interaction, they are manipulated,
moved and transformed. The rocking horse, the
cardboard box and the paper boats are not the symbol
of a reality off stage, yet of reality itself. The gestures
of the actors are deliberately accentuated by the
lack of words, emphasizing the also deliberate lack
of narrative, which is the true vision of the director.
Absolutely magical.
Geniality is in simplicity. And that is what Benjamin
Verdonck’s “Wewilllivestorm” is like:
simple and unpretentious.

Parece una presentación de cuento casi idílico, “érase
una vez una pequeña ciudad, la más pequeña de
Colorado (USA), con cinco casas encantadoras, y las
montañas Rocosas a sus pies...” Un lugar en el que hubo
una vez seis mil habitantes cuyo lema rezaba “llega,
hazte rico, lárgate”. Ahora sólo hay siete residentes,
pero con sus miedos, habladurías y acusaciones, en el
que temen incluso por sus propias vidas. “Bonanza” es
un microcosmos, en el que Berlin retrata en miniatura
un modelo a escala de la ciudad y en varias pantallas de
cine la huella más profunda de su existencia.
Berlin inició en 2003 el proyecto interdisciplinar “Holo-
cene” (periodo geológico actual) en el que aúnan una
serie de retratos de ciudades hechos cada año a través
de una perspicaz mirada creativa. Captar, relatar y
transmitir la esencia de distintas poblaciones mediante
un elaborado proceso de investigación.
Berlin es Bart Baele, Yves Degryse y Caroline Rochlitz.
Una construcción cinematográfica que está perfecta-
mente sincronizada y que aún así conserva un senti-
miento libre. Berlin contempla el mundo a través de la
ciudad y la ciudad a través de sus habitantes.

It seems as if it were the introduction of an idyllic
story, “once upon a time there was a little town,
the smallest in Colorado [USA], with five friendly
houses and the Rocky Mountains lying at their
feet.” A place where there were once six thousand
inhabitants, where the motto was: get in, get rich, get
out. Now there are only seven residents, but with their
concerns, the rumors and accusations, they fear for
their own lives. “Bonanza” is a microcosm that Berlin
relates in a scale model of the city and in various
cinema screens, leaving the deepest
footprint of its existence.
In 2003 Berlin started the interdisciplinary project
“Holocene” (the current geological period) where a
series of portraits of cities unite pictures that are
taken every year from a creative and observant
perspective. To understand, recount and convey the
spirit of different communities through an elaborate
research process. Berlin is Bart Baele, Yves Degryse
and Caroline Rochlitz.
A film construction which is perfectly synchronised
yet still retains a loose feel. Berlin surveys the world
via the city and the city via her inhabitants.

ZOO deriva de un libro homónimo sobre los animales en
los zoológicos. A partir de esa observación y de una minu-
ciosa investigación, su creador, el suizo Thomas Hauert, y
su selecto núcleo de bailarines rehacen trayectorias, y a
través de la improvisación nos proyectan formas, ritmos
y movimiento más allá de lo que nuestra mente pueda
inventar y entender.
A lo largo de sus diez años de búsqueda ZOO ha explorado
un variado conjunto de relaciones con la música, ya sea
vocal o instrumental. Ello le ha permitido mejorar y perfec-
cionar su interpretación física de la música. De su potencial
riqueza se han nutrido muchas de sus composiciones an-
teriores, junto a piezas de Bruckner, Haendel, o Thelonius
Monk entre otras. Proceso de reflexión, de amplificación o
secreta armonía que a buen seguro no dejará indiferente a
nadie en esta nueva creación de la compañía belga.
Bailando y cantando, sin perder nunca el hilo de un movi-
miento que él acentúa hasta el extremo, habla un idioma
mágico y complejo entre el concepto subyacente y la
virtuosidad formal. Todo es hermosamente sólido.

ZOO comes from a homonymous book about animals
in zoos. From this observation and after a meticulous
investigation, its creator, the Swiss Thomas Hauert, and
his select group of dancers redo paths, and through
improvisation, project forms, rhythms and movement
beyond what our minds can
imagine and understand.
During its ten years of searching, ZOO has explored
a variety of combinations with music, be it vocal
or instrumental. This has allowed it to improve and
perfect its physical interpretation of music. Many of
the previous compositions, together with pieces from
Buckner, Haendel and Thelonius Monk, among others,
have fed off its potential richness. The process of
reflection, amplification and secret harmony certainly
won’t leave anyone indifferent in this new creation
from the Belgian company.
Dancing and singing, without ever losing track of
the movement which he accentuates in the extreme,
he speaks a complex, magic language between the
underlying concept and formal virtuosity. Everything is
beautifully solid.

en coproducción con el 4 Festival Internacional de las Artes de
Castilla y León, la tercera parte de su afamada “The Dragons
Trilogy”, “Le Dragon Blue”.
Avalado por más de una docena de espectáculos y una larga
lista de premios, Robert Lepage vuelve con una creación
multidisciplinar y altamente visual que traspasa los límites del
teatro convencional utilizando un escenario
envuelto en nuevas tecnologías.
Un espectáculo espléndido y mágico en el que los intérpretes,
entre ellos el propio director, se redescubren enfrentándose a
lo desconocido, a lo extravagante, mirando siempre hacia un in-
cierto futuro. Una trama que cuenta con la absoluta complicidad
del público: el único recurso teatral que nunca se agota.
Si algo llama la atención del teatro de Lepage es el sorprenden-

One of the most famous dramatists of cinema and
contemporary theater, the Canadian Robert Lepage,
presents in Spain the follow-up of his famous “The
Dragons Trilogy”, “The Blue Dragon”, a joint production
with the 4th International Arts Festival.
Backed by more than a dozen shows and a long list of
awards, Robert Lepage returns with a multidisciplinary
creation, highly visual, which passes the limits of the
conventional theater by using a stage
full of new technologies. A splendid and magical show
where the actors, which include the director himself,
experience rediscovery facing the unknown, the
extravagant, looking towards an uncertain future. A plot
that counts on the absolute complicity of the audience: a
theatrical resource that is always readily available.
If something attracts the attention of Lepage’s theatre is
the surprising visual treatment that many people explain

Tras el éxito internacional de su controvertida “Letters
From Tentland: Return to Sender”, que pudimos disfrutar
aquí hace dos años, la coreógrafa alemana Helena
Waldmann vuelve a Salamanca con su nuevo trabajo,
coproducido por el Festival Internacional de las Artes,
“Feierabend! - das gegengift -”.
La recién estrenada creación escénica de Waldmann
cuenta con un reparto absolutamente internacional de
siete bailarines, actores y músicos, que retornan a las
raíces de la danza, el teatro y la música para festejar
el exorcismo de un mundo definido por el trabajo. Los
espectadores se convierten en invitados de honor de esta
sorprendente celebración, donde los rituales religiosos y
paganos se mezclan y se cuestionan, y donde cada uno
de nosotros decide, voluntariamente, si desea unirse a la
fiesta o permanecer como simple observador.
Es como una fiesta real: algunos sólo observan, algunos
se lo pasan realmente bien, y otros se lanzan de cabeza

After her international success with the controversial
“Letters From Tentland: Return to Sender”, which
we were able to enjoy here two years ago, the
German choreographer Helena Waldmann returns to
Salamanca with her new work, a joint production with

The recently debuted play by Waldmann is made up by
an entirely international cast of seven dancers, actors
and musicians, who go back to the roots of dance,
theater and music to celebrate the exorcism of a world
defined by work. The audience members are made the

the religious and pagan rituals mix and question, and
where each of us decide, voluntarily, if we want to join
the party or remain simple observers.
It is like a real party: some are only observing, some
have a really good time, and some throw themselves

Qué se puede esperar de un Don Quijote un poco luná-
tico que ve un aeropuerto construyéndose ante sus
ojos, un Boeing 747 aterrizando y paneles publicitarios
floreciendo... Circo, music-hall, comedia y cabaret en
vez de molinos. Alquimia teatral en estado puro para
un autor que después de 20 años a la cabeza de los
grandes teatros nacionales franceses regresa a los
escenarios con una fábula épica: “Don Quijote contra
el Ángel Azul”. De La Mancha a París con un Jérôme
Savary como maestro de ceremonias, y su troupe ”Ma-
gic Circus”. Sin lugar a dudas, uno de los platos fuertes
del Festival, con un Joan Crosas como Don Quijote, y
una azul Dulcinea, Marta Ribera,
deslumbrantes en sus interpretaciones.
Cervantes y Sternberg a pleno pulmón.
¿Deberíamos ir? ¡Savary pone en escena a Savary!
Grandilocuente, alternando emoción y chistes pican-
tes, con la decisión de un feriante que suele perderse
en digresiones inútilmente proselitistas. Y de paso, no
se priva de lanzar alguna puya a los cascarrabias que
se lo toman en serio. Salvo con una excepción, el mili-
tante “Cabaret” con Ute Lemper, nunca ha reivindicado
otra ambición que la de divertir y, en este sentido, este
espectáculo confirma la regla.

What can be expected of a Don Quixote, who is a bit mad,
that sees an airport being built before his eyes, a Boeing
747 landing and flourishing publicity boards... circus,
music hall, comedy and cabaret instead of windmills.
Theatrical alchemy in a pure state for an author who,
after 20 years at the head of the great French national
theaters, returns to the stage with an epical legend. Don
Quijote contra el Angel Azul (Don Quixote against the
Blue Angel). We are taken from La Mancha to Paris with
Jérôme Savary as the master of ceremonies, and his
troupe ”Magic Circus”. Without a doubt, it is one of the
central themes of the Festival, with Joan Crosas as Don
Quixote and a blue Dulcinea, Marta Ribera, outstanding in
their performances. Cervantes and Sternberg at full blast.
Should we go? Savary, puts Savary on stage!
Grandilocuent, alternating emotions and dirty jokes, with
the determination of a fair exhibitor that usually loses
himself in the proselytizing and useless digressions. And,
at the same time, he doesn’t prive himself of taking jabs
at the grumpy people that take him seriously. Apart from
for one exception, the militant “Cabaret” with Ute Lemper,
he has never had any other ambition other than having
fun, and in this sense, this show confirms the rule.

Tras su paso por el Kustenfestivaldesarts en Bruselas y
el Festival Premieres de Straßbourg la compañía alemana
andcompany&Co. llega al Festival Internacional de las Artes
en Salamanca con su proyecto “Time Republic” inspirado en
la carrera espacial del Sputnik.
Siguiendo sus recursos más característicos, el humor y la
oposición, este colectivo artístico deslumbra por su excelente
combinación entre hechos reales y ficticios, elementos esté-
ticos y políticos, logrando una perfecta y absoluta interacción
entre interpretación, música, movimiento, historia e imagen.
Con un lenguaje contemporáneo y una extravagante puesta
en escena, los siete actores de “Time Republic” recuerdan
promesas olvidadas de un porvenir ya sucumbido,
la presencia de acciones futuras y pasadas
en un espacio que sólo existe en el tiempo.
Y como es propio de los actores, ellos no se limitan a recitar
el guión, sino que actúan en roles no claramente definidos,
hacen música, ruido, encienden y apagan las luces (...) Entre
medias hay un entrenamiento físico en el escenario que se
convierte en una estación espacial por medio de esculturas
hechas con tubos, canciones suaves, sombreros de cowboy
gigantes y muchas turbulencias que son resaltadas
por luces deslumbrantes.

After participating in the Kustenfestivaldesarts in
Brussels and the Festival Premieres of Straßbourg, the
German company, andcompany&Co., come to the Inter-
national Arts Festival with their project “Time Republic”
which is inspired in the Sputnik space race.
Making use of their most characteristic resources,
humor and opposition, this artistic group stands out
for its excellent combination of fiction and non-fiction,
aesthetic and political elements, achieving a perfect
and absolute interaction between performance, music,
movement, history and image.The seven actors in
“Time Republic”, by using contemporary language and

Gilberto Gil nació en Bahia en 1942. En los sesenta,
con su compañero músico Caetano Veloso, dirigió el
movimiento sociopolítico Tropicalia, el movimiento
cultural más importante de Brasil desde la bossa nova.
Se exilió a Inglaterra en 1969 por la dictadura militar de
Brasil y allí absorbió diversos elementos de la cultura pop
internacional que tradujo a su propia música. Ha grabado
52 álbumes, incluyendo un tributo a Bob Marley. Gil es
uno de los artistas más destacados en los festivales de
música más importantes de Europa. Durante los últimos
cuatro años, Gil se ha tomado un descanso de su carrera
musical para servir como Ministro de Cultura de Brasil.
“Una vez fui el que lanzaba las piedras”, dice refiriéndose
a su oposición a la dictadura cuyo poder terminó en los
años 80, “ahora soy el cristal”. Gil ha iniciado un gran
número de proyectos interesantes durante su servicio en
el gobierno y ha impulsado el conocimiento de la cultura
brasileña por todo el mundo.
Gilberto Gil was born in Bahia in 1942. During the
sixties, he and his musicial companion, Caetano Veloso,
were major figures in the socio-political movement
Tropicalia, the most important cultural movement in
Brazil since bossa nova. He went into exile in England
in 1969, because of the military regime in Brazil, where
he absorbed different elements of the international
pop culture that he brought into his own music. He has
recorded 52 albums, including a tribute to Bob Marley.
Gil is one of the most outstanding artists in the most
important European music festivals. During the last four
years, Gil has taken a break from his music career to
serve as the Brazilian Minister of Culture. “At one time,
I was the one throwing the stones”, he says, refering to
his opposition to the dictatorship that ended in the ‘80s,
“now I am the glass.” Gil has begun a large number of
interesting projects during his service to the government
and has promoted the Brazilian culture all over the world.

de la faceta instrumental del estilo, ofrece una música
enormemente personal influenciada por el jazz-funk
y el soul y apoyada, esta vez, por la portentosa voz de
su vocalista, Ivonne.

Un espectáculo elegante, una performance de inigua-
lable intensidad visual y auditiva desarrollada en un
escenario tridimensional que envuelve al espectador
perfilando la geometría del sonido.
El artista australiano Robin Fox, por primera vez en Es-
paña, llega a Salamanca tras visitar grandes festivales
en ciudades de Asia, Europa y Australia con una de sus
extraordinarias e indescriptibles creaciones
“Laser Performance”.
Vibraciones acústicas que se transforman en ilumi-
nación en constante movimiento siempre buscando la
sincronización entre el sonido y la luz para conseguir
su máxima: “...lo que se oye es lo que se ve.”
“Laser Performance” es un momento que percibir, es el
tiempo dedicado a nuestros sentidos, una experiencia
sensorial sinestésica imposible de detallar.
El silencioso parpadeo de los láseres verdes de los clá-
sicos de la ciencia ficción (...) Fox demuestra el control
que tiene sobre este proceso estimulante, creando

An elegant show, an unequalled performance in visual
and sound intensity, developed on a tridimensional
stage that envelops the audience, shaping the
geometrics of sound.
The Australian artist, Robin Fox, for the first time in
Spain, comes to Salamanca after visiting important
festivals in cities of Asia, Europe and Australia with one
of his extraordinary and indescribable
works “Laser Performance”.
Acoustic vibrations transform and light up, while
remaining in constant motion, searching to synchronize
sound and light, to achieve its max. “...what you hear
is what you see...”“Laser Performance” is a moment
to observe, time dedicated to our senses, a sensorial
experience impossible to describe.
The silent flickering green lasers of classic
science fiction (...) Fox demonstrates the control he
has over this stimulating process, creating morphing
pulsating concentric circles of light which wrap around
the bodies of those who enter, enclosing them in a
translucent glowing capsule.

El acontecimiento de “Comer o Coração” es el cuerpo
de Vera Mantero. Desengañado, instalado, coreogra-
fiado, visto, vivo, suspendido en una de las esferas...
Ese cuerpo que a todo da sentido. Escultura de hierro y
cuerpo vivo. Una obra única e inédita producida para la
26ª Bienal de Sao Paulo, representando a Portugal.
Un trabajo de concepción y creación conjunta entre
el escultor Rui Chafes y la coreógrafa y bailarina Vera
Mantero. Una apuesta por el vértigo de la ascensión,
y el abandono del suelo. Diálogo abierto a diferentes
niveles, puntos de vista y cuestionamientos artísticos,
en una de las mayores utopías de la danza. Por vez
primera en tierra nuestra. Y también pueden descubrir-
se, por separado en el DA2, la pieza escultórica de Rui
Chafes y el trabajo visual de Helena Inverno.
Suspendido de una de las esferas, el cuerpo de
Vera Mantero desmiente su aparente ligereza por la
violencia con la que se deforma, al intentar desespe-
radamente liberarse de la estructura... es una ocasión
singular para no perderse.

The happening of “Comer o Coração” is the body of
Vera Mantero. Disenchanted, installed, choreographed,
seen, alive, and suspended in one of the spheres ...A
body which gives everything meaning. A sculpture
made of steel and living body. A unique work produced
for the 26th Biennial of Sao Paulo,
representing Portugal.
A work conceived and created by the sculptor Rui Cha-
fes and the choreographer and dancer Vera Mantero,
it is a risk on the dizzy ascent, and the abandoning of
the ground. An open dialog on many levels, points of
view and artistic questions, it is one of the biggest uto-
pias of dance. This piece is presented for the first time
in our country. And you can also discover separately
in the DA2: the sculpture by Rui Chafes and the visual
work by Helena Inverno.
Hung from one of the sheres, Vera Mantero’s body
denies its apparent lightness with the violence with
which it deforms, trying desperately to release itself
from the structure... it is a singular opportunity
not to be missed.

Music and audiovisual experimentation find their place in the Center of Contemporary Art Domus DA2 of Sala-
manca. This edition 2008 brings us closer to the person that could be considered one of the founders of Gigoló
Records and a mainstay of Electro-Techno, David Carretta. An intuitive artist, his impeccable and outstanding
career covers many sides of electronic music. He is a perfect exponent for Mutev Night. Elements like night-time,

Through his style, Carretta defines his French roots, putting the grooves, beats and vocals in a cool way, to blast

La Oficina del Festival no se limita en esta edición 2008 a ser un punto de información y de venta de entradas,
sino que evoluciona para convertirse en un lugar simbólico donde experimentar con el lema del Festival: INTERAC-
TUAR. Interacción con la tecnología, entre seres artificiales y biológicos, entre seres vivos, animales o vegetales, e
incluso interacción espacial y temporal con el uso de Internet por medio de instalaciones de vídeos interactivos, a
través de la inteligencia artificial y de interacciones humano-vegetales creadas por 8 artistas contemporáneos de
diversos continentes.
The Festival Office in this 2008 edition is not just a ticket office and place to get information, but it has become a
symbolic place where one can get a hands on feel for the slogan of the Festival: INTERACT. This involves the interaction
with technology, between artificial beings and biological beings, between living things, animals and vegetables, and
even in a spatial and temporal interaction using Internet with the installation of interactive videos, through artificial
intelligence and human-vegetable interactions, created by 8 contemporary artists from different parts of the world.

Suspendidas del techo y con sus brazos en movimiento, estas máquinas
robóticas aparecen como expresivas obras de arte animadas. Más allá
de autómatas especializados, cada máquina está dotada de un cuerpo
esférico y ocho brazos de tubo de aluminio. Un sistema sensor, junto
a sistemas motores y de control las hacen funcionar como verdaderos
sistemas nerviosos autónomos, con capacidad de reaccionar a los
estímulos que reciben de los espectadores. Toda una exploración de las
aplicaciones audiovisuales en la simulación de funciones orgánicas y
metabólicas, en donde se recrean sorprendentes arquitecturas virtuales
dinámicas. Un desafío para los sentidos creado por Bill Vorn.
Suspended from the ceiling with their arms in movement, these robotic machines appear as expressive and
animated works of art. Beyond just being a specialized automaton, each Hysterical Machine has a spherical
body and eight arms made of aluminum tubing. It has a sensing system, a motor system and a control system
that functions as an autonomous nervous system. They react to the viewers according to the amount of stimuli
they receive. The result is an exploration of audiovisual applications in the simulation of organic and metabolic
functions where these machines engender a multiplicity of interpretations based on single dynamic pattern of
events. A challenge for the senses created by Bill Vorn.

Las plantas nos recuerdan su existencia por una voz, un canto,
una vibración acústica, y más allá de meros objetos decorativos,
resurgen aquí como auténticos objetos animados, hecho que en
ocasiones escapa a nuestra percepción. Akousmaflore nos muestra
un pequeño jardín compuesto de verdaderas plantas musicales
reactivas a nuestros gestos y cercanía. Cada planta se despierta al
mínimo contacto cálido y humano a través de un lenguaje sonoro que
le es propio. Este lenguaje vegetal funciona así al tocarlo, ya sean ca-
ricias o meros roces. Nuestra aura cálida y eléctrica, imperceptible al
ojo, actúa aquí sobre los ramajes y ofrece la experiencia de un medio
ambiente reactivo a su presencia. Toda una experiencia sensorial que
cuestiona nuestras relaciones energéticas con los seres vivos.
Plants remind us of their existence through a voice, a song, an acoustic vibration and beyond being just simple
decorative objects, reappear here as authentic animated objects, a fact that at times escapes our perception…
Akousmaflore is a small garden composed of living musical plants or flowers, which react to human gestures
and light contact. Each plant reacts to the most minimal contact through heat or human contact, in a plant
language which occurs through touch and the close proximity of the spectator. Our invisible electrical aura,
which is invisible to the human eye, acts on the plant branches and encourages them to react. An experience for
the senses that questions our active relationships with living things.

La imagen, dos atletas corriendo, desaparece cuando el visi-
tante interviene, con lo que nuestra intervención acústica en
el espacio ayuda a la pérdida de la imagen.
Masa Crítica
Un guiño al clásico tema de la sociedad del espectáculo desde
la primera línea de un concierto. La idea es que los personajes
representados sigan con la mirada al individuo que está frente
a ellos y dependiendo del nivel sonoro reaccionen de manera
más o menos entusiasta.
A Doctor of Visual Arts and Multimedia and a Professor of sculpture at the Polytechnic University of Valencia,
Moisés Mañas brings two of his video creations to the Festival Office.

The image of two athletes running disappears when the spectator intervenes. Our acoustic involvement in the
space helps to recover the lost image.

A glimpse at the classical topic of the entertainment community seen from the front line of a concert. The idea is
that the characters represented in the show follow the individual in front of them using their eyes. Depending on

A distance is a digital photograph representing a self-portrait of the artist. As time passes, the expression
of the person represented changes, depending on his moods. These moods clearly vary and depend on the

Les Mains
La instalación Les mains muestra la vida de un pueblo de manos, proyecta-

Fantôme(s)
Fantôme(s) se presenta bajo la forma de un video espejo, que refleja con
fidelidad la escena que está pasando enfrente, pero no los personajes
que están presentes. Estos que no aparecen claramente y se acercan a
la pantalla, inmóviles, mezclados entonces con los fantasmas que refleja
el espejo y se devuelve como uno de sus regalos. Fantôme(s) pone en
cuestión la realidad del tiempo presente.Vicent Lêvy es montador de cine,
video artista y numérico.
Fantôme(s) is presented as a video mirror that reflects the scene that is going on in front of it, but does not show the
people that are present. These people do not appear clearly and as they come close to the screen, they remain immo-
vable, blending in with the ghosts that are reflected by the mirror, returned like one of their gifts. Fantôme(s) questions
the reality of present time. Vicent Lêvy is a film editor, video and digital artist.
Géminis
Géminis muestra un universo acuático en el que evolucionan unos “pre-
geminienes”, fragmentos de cuerpos: dedos, ojos, bocas. El espectador
aproxima su rostro a la pantalla y los “pre-geminienses” se lanzan sobre él
y le devoran, lo que les permite acceder temporalmente a un estadio de vida
más avanzado. Pol Olory es artista plástico y performer.
Géminis (Gemini) is an aquatic universe where some “pre-geminienes”
evolve, fragments of bodies: fingers, eyes, mouths. The viewer puts his
face close to the screen and the “pre-geminienses” jump on it, devouring it,
permitting them to temporarily enter a stage of more advanced life forms.

Le petit chaperon rouge es una adptación de un cuento para tres robots autó-
nomos. Representan la hija pequeña, el lobo y el cazador, y viven libremente
los entresijos de los personajes del cuento, en interacción con el público, y
sometidos a una suerte de vida en un escenario abierto.

Le petit chaperon rouge is an adaptation of the story of three autonomous
robots. These robots represent the small daughter, the wolf and the hunter. They
live freely among the secrets of the characters of the story, interacting with the
audience and subject to a life on an open stage.

The Festival supports the artistic initiatives coming from different cultural spheres in Salaman-

Partiendo del barro, la pólvora, el cuerpo, la voz, del sonido, la imagen
digital, Carlos Llavata nos remite hacia ciertas realidades que muestran
lucha, anhelo, fragilidad, al tratar de sobrepasar los límites convencio-
nales. La obra se compone de presentaciones públicas, acción-perfor-
mance y acciones de estudio y pintura y escultura de acción.
Working with clay, gunpowder, voice, sound, digital image, Carlos
Llavata sends us towards certain realities that show fight, longing,
fragility, when trying to exceed conventional limits. The performance

The lack of economic means and the force of inspiration,
provokes the transformation of a public space situated
below the New York Avenue in Paris in a new artistic platform,
a space of passage that facilitates the communication of the
social qualms of the artists.
After putting together a large quantity of documents from the
assaults caused by delinquents, Rubén Santiago moved this
material camouflaged as objects of art to Paris. Once the crime
was mocked, all of the documents are exhibited in the Passage
Souterraine available for anyone to appropriate them.

La Universidad ofrece, dentro del marco del Festival, la posibilidad de descubrir diferentes
lenguajes del mundo de la danza actual, a través del trabajo resultante de la residencia que
seis coreógrafas han llevado a cabo en Salamanca, en las fechas precedentes al Festival.
The University offers, as part of the frame of the Festival, the possibility of discovering
different languages of the world of contemporary dance, through the work resulting from the
residence that six choreographers have made in Salamanca, in the dates prior to the Festival.

FESTIVAL(ES) EN LOS BARRIOS
El mosaico de la programación se despliega de nuevo en los barrios de Salamanca: 34 propuestas escénicas y de
animación repartidas en doce lugares distintos, a cargo de 27 compañías titulares.
Esta rotunda presencia en los Barrios (www.festivalbarrios.com) se está convirtiendo en una de las señas de iden-
tidad del Festival Internacional de las Artes de Castilla y León. Cada día el Festival estimulará a los vecinos de una
zona distinta de la ciudad, con montajes arriesgados en espacios poco convencionales, en plena calle, actividades
de implicación y creación colectiva. Durante las mañanas se proponen cuentacuentos y teatro de objetos destina-
dos a colegios de la ciudad. Las tardes dan paso a propuestas que tienen que ver con el motivo central del Festival,
la interactuación, participación activa, especialmente del público infantil en espectáculos y actividades que tienen
como eje promover, en este caso, una conciencia ecológica, la cultura del reciclado y la promoción de energías re-
novables. Al atardecer, le toca el turno a las últimas creaciones de importantes compañías, como Hojarasca Danza,
Circ Panic, Trapu Zaharra, Che y Moche, La Banda o Panta Rhei; en un recorrido por el nuevo circo, la danza contem-
poránea, el teatro musicado y el teatro más callejero; también habrá cabida para la música más reciente de grupos
como Los Aslandticos, DaClub!, Stoy Ke Trino! y bandas emergentes de Castilla y León que llevarán hip-hop, funky,
mestizaje y fusión a los barrios. Novedad, creatividad y calidad se dan cita en uno de los apartados de programa-
ción más celebrados del Festival.

questions the act of hiding of its natural state by society.

Once again the show programming enters the neighbourhoods of Salamanca: 34 stage and animation proposals
set in twelve different places, by 27 professional companies.
This clear presence in the neighbourhoods (www.festivalbarrios.com) is being converted into one of the identifying
symbols of the International Art Festival of Castilla y León. Each day the Festival will encourage the neighbors
of a different area of the city, with risky staging in unconventional spaces, in the middle of the street, activities
of implication and collective creation. Storytelling and theater designed for the schools of the city make up the
main proposals for the mornings. The afternoons start with proposals that deal with the main motivation behind
the Festival, interaction. This active participation, especially on behalf of the youngest members of the audience,
happens during the shows and activities, which have as a main theme to promote, in this case, an awareness in
ecology, the culture of recycling and the promotion of renewable energies.
At nightfall, it will be the turn of the latest creations from important companies, like Hojarasca Danza, Circ Panic,
Trapu Zaharra, Che y Moche, La Banda and Panta Rhei; in a journey through new circus, contemporary dance, music
theater and the truest street theater; there will also be room for the latest music from groups like Los Aslandticos,
DaClub!, Stoy Ke Trino! and emerging bands from Castilla y León which will bring hip-hop, funky, miscegenation
and fusion to the neighbourhoods. Novelty, creativity and quality will come together in one of the most celebrated
sections of the programming of the Festival.
