Motivation and Introduction:

The teacher will gather the students to the mat in front of the
interactive whiteboard.
Good morning Class! Today we are going to be using the interactive
whiteboard.
QUESTION: Putting your hand up, can anyone remember what we
did last time on the interactive whiteboard?
Once the students have shared what they remember from the
previous interactive whiteboard lesson, the teacher will go over any
rules about using the whiteboard and how to use it appropriately,
briefly since it has been explained.
The motivation of the lesson content, the teacher will play the

The teacher will introduce the activity on the interactive whiteboard by

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key

Questions):
In the game the students see and hear the initial sound in the word
before they are required to pick a letter that matches the initial sound.
For example the automated voice says 'net' then the letters are
displayed and the students must decide what letter matches the initial
sound of the word, in this case 'n'.
The words would be altered to randomized 'S-A-T-P-I-N' words. This
is because the lesson is focusing on initial sounds and individual
letter sounds as opposed to consonant digraphs and blends. This is
especially considering their prior knowledge of the term one, includes
little understanding of consonant digraphs and blends but simply
introduction to recognising sounds in words expanded from individual
letter sound recognition.
The lesson will begin by completing the tasks as a group, students
are asked to put up their hand and guess while the teacher models
how to select the letter on the interactive whiteboard.
Once the students become seemingly comfortable with the activity,
the teacher will call upon individual students to have a go and tap on
the letter (with the interactive whiteboard pen) that they think might
match the initial sound in the word.
When students have difficulty answering the question, the teacher will
use explicit teaching to teach the content of listening to the initial
sound in a word.
