I learned from How to use your observations that by observing and documenting
we learn insights into a childs strengths, knowledge, interests, and skills. These are
the things we would share with the families and care givers. When children see us
positively using interpersonal skills with other teachers in the room they see how to
act. Children learn by observations and we need to show the other adults around us
respect and listen when they talk with us. Our social interactions with adults and
peers show children positive ways to interact with each other. I learned from
Discussion Board #5 that Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and
Developmentally Appropriate Practices relate to each other. WMELS and DAP fit
together to create developmentally appropriate environments. When the adults in a
childs life see the positive influence we have, they know the children have a highquality environment to learn in. The nine guiding principles of WMELS and the core
considerations of DAP take into consideration what a child knows at a certain age
and stage of development. What we learn about specific children helps us to teach
and care for each child as an individual. These are the things we would
communicate to families. Communication between coworkers and families is an
internal part of early childhood education. Verbal and non-verbal communication
begins at birth and is used our entire lives. What we say, how we say it, and what
we mean are extremely important and can be life changing. Children and adults
need to know the environment we create for the children are trusting and
respectful. I learned ten ways we can promote positive interpersonal skills with
adults. They are:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6) Be a great communicator
7) Make people laugh
8) Put yourself in others shoes
9) Dont be a whiner
10)
Promote togetherness
Positive interpersonal skills with adults can improve many aspects of our lives
professionally and socially. Interpersonal skills lead to a better understanding and
relationship with the adults as well as the children.
