Educational Philosophy
I believe that social studies content should be made relevant to
students lives. History is multifaceted, and therefore should be covered from
as many perspectives as possible. Students will be taught the origins of our
nation and that of other nations through active learning activities so they will
develop critical thinking skills and be prepared as future citizens to
participate in a democratic system. I will encourage students to feel they are
a part of history, implementing a sense of pride in their own ancestry and
show them how history effects their world today. I will differentiate
instruction in an effort to meet the needs of all my students cognitive levels
and promote a multicultural classroom experience. I believe the social
studies classroom is a place where students can listen, debate, read, write,
and have creative opportunities to further their learning. I will strive to make
my classroom a place where students can converse and share ideas but not
feel threatened when I challenge them to defend those ideas. I believe the
focus of my classroom will be to improve students understanding of their
place in the world. Once they understand where they fit into the history of
mankind, they can begin to develop an idea of what it means to be an
individual in their local, national, and global community.
