Taxonomy
Mathematics

Standard:
2. Design and develop
digital age learning
experiences and
assessments
b. Develop technologyenriched learning
environments that
enable all students to
pursue their individual
curiosities and become
active participants in
setting their own
educational goals,
managing their own
learning, and
assessing their own
progress

Understand: The
teacher helps
the students
create a Google
Trek to introduce
the process for
future student
use.

Example: Use Google

Trek to map out
different landmarks in
the United States that
the students find
interesting. Each
student can plot
different points. Then
use mathematic
properties to
determine the distance
between landmarks
and compare
distances.
2. Patterns, Functions, and
Algebraic Structures
3. Analysis, Statistics, and
Probability

Standard:
3. Research and
Information Fluency
b. Locate, organize,
analyze, evaluate,

Example:
Students find statistics
about population
densities in the United
States and point
different plots with the
statistics. Students use
information to analyze
populations across the
country.

Geometric Relationships
Reading, Writing, and Communicating
1. Oral Expression and
Listening

2. Reading for All Purposes

Standard:
1. Creativity and
innovation
d. Identify trends and
forecast possibilities
Example: Assess
Martin Luther King Jr.s
Speech to highlight
effective speaking
strategies. Ask
students if his speech
would still be effective
today.
Standard:
3. Model digital age
work and learning.
Teachers exhibit
knowledge, skills, and
work processes
representative of an
innovative professional
in a global and digital
society.
a. Demonstrate
fluency in technology
systems and the
transfer of current
knowledge to new
technologies and
situations
Example: Pull up
primary sources on a
Smart Board or
Document Camera so

Analyze:
Students
analyze speech
for effective
techniques to
use in their own
public speaking.

Understand:
Students read
primary sources
to understand
what literature
and government
was like in olden
times.

students can read

historical documents
and get a sense of
writing from different
times, not just the
modern era.

Social Studies
1. History

Evaluate:
Students
evaluate old
problems in our
country by
looking at
different
primary sources.

Standard:
1. Facilitate and inspire
student learning and
creativity
b. Engage students in
exploring real-world
issues and solving
authentic problems
using digital tools and
resources
Example: Provide a list
of historical documents
and primary sources
for students to review.
Have students identify
the problem of that
time and propose how
they would go about
solving the problem if
they were the
President.

2. Geography
3. Economics
4. Civics

1. Creativity and
Innovation
a. Create original
works as a means of
personal or group
expression
Example: Use a
primary source of the
United States
Constitution. Have

Apply: Students
use patterns
from our
Constitution to
create one of
their own.

students work together

to create a Constitution
of their own.

Science
Standard:
2. Communication and
Collaboration
b. Communicate
information and ideas
effectively to multiple
audiences using a
variety of media and
formats

1. Physical Science

Create: The
class works
together to
create a Google
Trek of where
different
scientific items
or ideas were
invented/discov
ered.

Example: Assign
different groups of
students to different
inventions (invention of
the telescope, cell,
etc.) and put the
locations of these
inventions in a Google
Trek.

2. Life Science
3. Earth Systems
Science

2. Design and develop

digital age learning
experiences and
assessments
a. Design or adapt
relevant learning
experiences that
incorporate digital
tools and resources to
promote student
learning and creativity
Example: Have
students use Google
Trek to plot points of
locations prone to
earthquakes and
example why these
areas are like that.

Apply: Use
Google Trek to
plot actual
points on the
globe that
experience
frequent
earthquakes.
Students must
apply
knowledge they
have learned
about Google
Trek and also
about
earthquakes and
tectonic plates.

students that have
trouble visualizing and
remembering where
different events take
place.
Primary Sources are
great for gifted and
talented students
because the take the
general curriculum and
take it a step further.
The reading level in
primary sources are
typically advanced and
great for advanced
readers.

Other
Reflection:
This matrix gave me lots of ideas of how I can implement Primary Sources and Google Treks into my future classroom. I can use these to change up the curriculum and keep the
classroom interesting and engaging. I love the idea of using primary sources to advance a lesson plan and tie it in to real historical issues. I also love the idea of using Google Trek
to map out specific lessons and provide a distinct visual of the globe.
