Team 2024,
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend! This is a big week for our Pride for a few reasons: (1) We are officially beginning
Quarter 4 which is the last quarter to push our 4th graders to be 5th grade ready and build habits that will make them
successful, (2) We have our Quarter 3 benchmarks for our students to show off their skills and the growth they have
made since Q2, (3) We will end the week with March Mental Math Madness. While normal schools are counting down
the days until Spring Break, HC teachers and students understand that every second matters and does whatever it
takes to bring the best out of our kids. Let's be sure to set our students up for success to have a smooth, joyful, focused,
and calm week. Make it happen!
School Wide UTZ Focus: After a reset, if a student continues to not meet the vision, escalate consequences quickly
and consistently using a least invasive form of correction.
Ways to make this happen:
State your expectation clearly by squaring up and standing still, using elements of strong voice, and scanning
for compliance
If a student(s) does not meet the vision, use a variety of least invasive maneuvers to ensure compliance
(reference PD handout for specific strategies)
Essential Mindset: Great classroom teachers address noncompliance EVERY time in a variety of different
ways.
Team Focus: Create a calm, positive, focused environment for students in whole Pride settings, classes, and in
benchmark rooms.
Ways to make this happen:
Going slow with directions and transitions
Positive narration (urgency, confidence, etc.) -- the smallest things matter this week
Using least invasive forms of correction and a clam tone when correcting students. We want students to feel
confident and good about themselves going into benchmarks and doing this will go a long way to setting that
tone.
Have pump up conversations with emerging students. Pulling a student to the side on the morning of your
classs benchmark and helping them feel confident and prepared goes a long way to pushing their stamina
and focus during the test.
Circulate and be fully engaged in the testing rooms. The more seriously we take the testing session, the more
we will get out of our students.
In the classes and Pride Times following the benchmark, be prepared to be flexible and go slow.
Own paycheck comments for all kids in your room during testing. Every kid in your room should earn at
least 1 paycheck comment per day relating to focus/stamina/effort. Content teachers will own putting in

comments for strategies.

Be intentional about seating in testing rooms and in the rooms after testing. This is a great way to set
students up for success.
This Weeks Schedule:
The schedule and details for the schedules this week are attached and revised from team
meeting on Friday. Please be sure to print and carefully read over them so you can own
the information.
Monday: Reading Benchmark
Tuesday: Math Benchmark
Wednesday: Revised Whole Pride Math Schedule
Thursday: March Mental Math Madness Schedule
Morning Work Rotation:
Monday and Wednesday: Reading
Tuesday and Thursday: Math
Pride Time Schedule:
Monday: Frontload snacks for EOY Trip on Pride Post/Reading Logs/Homerooms at the end of the day
(Steffen)
Tuesday: Frontload homerooms at the end of the day (Tucker-Hunt)
Wednesday: MMMM Prep at the end of the day/Frontload MW in homerooms (Tucker-Hunt)
Thursday: MMMM Hype and Prep (Tucker-Hunt)
***There will likely be students who are on track to rejoin. Steffen and Tucker-Hunt, you will have to get creative in
finding times for them to rejoin in front of the whole Pride.***
Benchmark Room Set Up:
As agreed upon on Friday during team meeting, we will meet at 6:50am tomorrow morning to get rooms set
up.
Additional Notes (Please Read Carefully):
Please be sure that you have a seating chart created and post-it notes placed on student's desk by gotime tomorrow morning.
If you have any posters or anchor charts with content in your room that could be useful on the
benchmark, be sure they are covered up.
Rooms need to be orderly, clutter-free, and have rows that are easy to circulate through.
Please be sure boards with start, end, and testing times are on the board.
Please use
For the days with 3 rooms for homerooms, be sure that there are enough desks to accommodate
the small group students that will be placed in your room.
Morning Work/Dismissal in Homerooms:
This information is included in the details, but we will have morning work in homerooms Monday-Thursday
of this week. We will have dismissal from a classroom on Wednesday and Thursday.
Kids will still pick up their MW from the table as they enter the building, however, Tucker-Hunt and
Steffen, please own putting copies of extra MWs in each homeroom in the event that kids forget to
pick it up on their way in.
If you are owning a homeroom on Monday-Tuesday, please make sure that you have a few extra desks for
the students who are in a small group.
Cheek: The roster that you need for telling kids what room to be in on Monday and Tuesday is attached. It is
the benchmark roster that has homerooms in the title and the names in red at the bottom.

Monday:
Nonfiction Room: Tucker-Hunt and Graves
Reading Room: Steffen and Cosentino
Math Room: Manley and Cheek
Writing Room: Bledsoe (small group)
1:1 with Nicholas (Coach's Office): Coach

Paychecks and HW Expectations this week:
Please be sure to reference the team meeting notes that are attached in order to own what the next steps are
for paychecks and HW.
Please be sure your HW is organized in a way to distribute it to the Pride.
Monday HW: Math HW (distributed in afternoon classes, collected on Tuesday whole Pride)
Tuesday HW: Nonfiction and Writing HW (distributed whole Pride on Tuesday, collected on
Wednesday regularly in class)
Wednesday HW: Math, Reading, and Writing Break Packets (frontloaded and distributed in class
on Wednesday, collected when we return from break). No other HW should be assigned.
Thursday HW: None
March Mental Math Madness:
The details for this day are attached. The red font is 4th grade specific, and the black font includes the details
created by the math department.
Tucker-Hunt will take the lead on this day/event, so please reach out to her with questions.
All: To support our Pride, students will be told to wear their PPN shirt on Thursday and pay a dollar for jean
day or wear khakis. Please wear your white 2024 PPN shirt and any pants that you would like on Thursday
(professional or jeans).
Silent Lunch Rotation:
Due to benchmark testing and MMMM, we will not have silent lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Please be sure that you are entering paycheck comments for students who have incomplete HW,
missing HW, or missing signatures. You should be going through HW daily and entering comments.
It is essential that we are holding students accountable for this.
Wednesday: Tucker-Hunt and Cosentino
Lunch:
Wednesday's Round Table Kids: Each teacher should have the correct number of students to share out based
on two days of strong testing (focus, stamina, and work habits).
Trash Minutes: Steffen and Tucker-Hunt: Please be sure the trash system is running consistently during
lunch and dismissal.
Guided Reading Planning Periods:
Since there will be no GR/EM this Monday-Thursday, we will not have GR planning periods this week.
Each teacher should be presence in their regular dismissal role.

Benchmark Room Set-Up: Meet at 6:50am to get rooms set up for benchmarks. Reach out to Steffen in the
morning if you have questions.
Hump Day Holla: We will meet at in Steffens room this Wednesday, 3/23 at 7am.
Locking Up Technology:
As a reminder, it is essential that all technology is locked in your closet before you leave on Thursday
afternoon.
If you are unable to lock up your closet for whatever reason, the expectation is that you lock your classroom
door instead.
Paycheck Deadline:
The deadline for paychecks is still this Saturday, 3/26 at 11:59pm.
I would suggest entering them by Thursday evening so you don't have anything to worry about going into
break.
It is essential that comments for benchmarks, HW, and class on Wednesday are entered by each
teacher.
Bench Ownership:
The goal is to get 100% of our students off of bench by this Thursday which means we need to go all in with
making this happen. In order to make this happen, they will need to be set up strategically with pump up
conversations throughout the day and set up for testing in their individual rooms. Please use
your repertoire and any additional ideas that we have discussed to help clear our bench before Spring Break.
Steffen: Raiyana J., Brandon W., Ryan J.
Tucker-Hunt: Kadyn C., Ciani C., ZyQuan A.
Bledsoe: Thurman H., Gerard H.
Cheek: Shermari P.
Graves: Travon W., Nicholas W.
Cosentino: Christian R., Charmez W.
Quarter 3 Report Cards:
The date for grades being entered is Tuesday, March 22nd by 7am. This is a hard deadline.
We will staple report cards on the work day when we return from Spring Break.
Each class should have 5 grades per strand entered into Kickboard for Q3.
Please make sure that any grades that you want to show on Kickboard for Q3 are entered with a date of 3/18
or earlier.
Quarter 3 Make Up Work:
There is only 1 days left in Quarter 3 to have students make up any missing assignments.
Please remember that all long-term assignments, quizzes, and tests need to be made up by students.
Students can either complete assignments during the do now (if they are relatively quick) or if they warrant
more time, they would need to stay after school.
Additionally, if you have students stay after school, please be sure to let the office know/update the tutoring
Google Doc so the office is informed and support tutoring dismissal.
Spring Break Packets:
Steffen, Tucker-Hunt, and Cosentino: Spring Break Packets need to be frontloaded and given to kids
on Wednesday, 3/23 in class.
Please be sure they are submitted to your IC for feedback by today at 5pm.
Readathon Poster/AR Awards:
Steffen:
Please be sue to have your readathon picture converted to a poster and place it in the hallway. This

Possible Q3 AR Award dates:

Wednesday, April 6 - I don't know what all has to happen this day, but I'm thinking it doesn't make sense to do GR one
day, so maybe the AR award ceremony could be done during the GR block.
Friday, April 15 (I really don't want to push it back any farther than this, but if needed, it could be any Friday
thereafter).
