Module 15: Technology
It is now 2016 and our technology is more advanced than ever and is still advancing
every day. There are so many things that we are able to do now days that we werent able to
thousands of years ago. We can cure diseases, make electricity, use have cell phones for
communication, and airplanes for traveling. With technology today we can do almost anything. It
is amazing how many lives we can save by something as little as flying food and medicine to less
fortunate countries around the world. Through evolution we have not only changed ourselves but
our technology. Technology is the basis of evolution in todays society. The more we advance in
technology the more things there are possible to do. One day we will be able to live sustainable
on Mars. There is so much more to be learned and discovered.
Lets go way back to the early man. The first idea of a human being. We did not just
physically change but mentally as well. Lets start with how we physically have changed over
time. Over millions of years the skull has changed into what we have today. The skull started out
with smaller brain and larger face. Where now we have a larger brain and a smaller face. With a
larger brain came more advance thoughts and new technology. We started out with just a round
rock that would be used to slash against other rocks to form rock flakes that would then be used
to cut meat or makes spears. The next type of technology was formed from a rock as well but
into a much larger thick spear that was mostly used for digging and crushing various items. After
that technology started to get smaller and smaller coming down to arrowheads.

Todays technology always starts out bigger and over time becomes smaller and more
refines. After arrowheads the newest form of technology was from bones that were formed to be
sharp and used for hunting and fishing. The early man started to show signs of communication
with each other with markings on bones and using pigment to draw art as a way of
communicating with each other which is something we still use today. The use of pigments was
the first form of art in history. The ancient art works were found on a lot of rock walls and caves.
Ancient Greek society is one of the most advanced eras of all time. Their technology
advanced in military uses and made many new inventions. This was a time period is where many
of the inventions made are things that we still use every day in our society. Inventions like, gears,
screws, steam operated machines, and the water mill. Inventions were also used to advance their
military technology and tactics as well. The technology that has been contributed mostly to today
is plumbing, showers, central heating, and streets! These are everyday uses that are needed to
live and that have bettered the society. Something as little as a gear has been so much more
useful than people think about, a gear is used in such practical ways especially on machines. At
this time in history is the beginning of using things for more uses than one and thinking outside
of the box to expand the uses of technology.
During the Medieval Europe time period religion became a major aspect of peoples
lives. The fight for which religion should be everyones religion was rising. Christianity started
to spread throughout the Roman Empire. Communication is a different form of technology.
When we think of communication we think of picking up the phone and dialing a number but
when phones did not exist the way of communication was spreading the word to other people to
get the message to an individual. During this time religion was spread around the world faster
than anyone could think. People were interested in learning about new ideas. In Merovingian

France there were Kings and Franks, the kings were referred to as long-haired kings to identify
themselves from the franks. The king had a lot of power, wealth and authority towards people.
As Christianity was rising, there started to become conflict between churches. It was a monks
job to spread around the Lords name to people, before they knew it Christianity became part of
the society. The power the communication has had a huge impact on todays world.
Not many people think about how the use of technology and inventions have made us
who we are today. Evolution grew our society to be bigger and better than it has ever been.
Everything that has been accomplished in history has had positive and negative effects that we
learn from. We started out known as the early man someone who only used rocks to do
anything to what we are today. The amount of technology that has been made is something we
should be proud of and should never take for granted.
