Harley, N., Malnick, E., Mullholland, R., Sabur, R., Steafel, E., & Trotman, A. (2015). Paris
terror attack: Everything we know on Saturday afternoon. Retrieved from
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11995246/Paris-shootingWhat-we-know-so-far.html
This article provides information about what happened in Paris on November 13, 2015.
The article gives the time and place of all six locations that where attacked as well as including
videos and pictures of the locations. With all the information the authors provide, I am
convinced and agree with what the authors state about the terror attacks in Paris.
I like this source because it gives a great amount of detail on what happened in Paris and
what happened in all six locations as well as the aftermath. The authors dont just provide videos
and pictures of each location but also gives information of the people that caused the attacks.
I will most likely use this article for my research because of the great amount of
information the article has before and after the attacks, with this I can show my audience the
importance of knowing what happened in Paris. The quote I will probably use is toward the end
in the section titled Hollande: France is at war, where Francois Hollande states The acts
committed on Friday night in Paris and at the Stade are acts of war, leaving at least 130 dead and

many wounded; this constitutes an attack against our country, against its values against its youth,
against its way of life (Harley, Malnick, Mullholland, Sabur, Steafel, & Trotman, 2015).
Hollande tells the tragedy of what happened that night in Paris and the consequence it has caused
them.

Barnard, A. (2015). Beirut, also the site of deadly attacks, feels forgotten. The New York Times.

The main argument in this article is how Paris has received more news coverage and
media acknowledgment of their terror attacks, than the terror attacks that occurred in Lebanon.
The author proves this by telling the readers how countries around the world lit up the colors of
the French flag in their famous attractions and how no one did the same for Lebanon.
I agree with the author because I think she right when she talks about Lebanon not
receiving the same acknowledgment as Paris. I also liked the article because it doesnt just talk
about how Lebanon was ignored but as well as the war in Syria, the refugees and how the
government of Lebanon has done little to help their people.
I would most likely use this article for my research to prove how Lebanon did not get the
same attention as Paris, even though they should have. A quote I would use to support my
argument would be where Elie Fares a doctor in Lebanon states When my people died, no
country bothered to light up its landmarks in the colors of their flagWhen my people died, they

did not send the world into mourning. Their death was but an irrelevant fleck along the
international news cycle, something that happens in those parts of the world (Barnard, 2015).

McCants, W. (2015). Why did ISIS attack Paris? The Atlantic. Retrieved from
http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/11/isis-paris-attack-why/416277/
The main argument of this article is to inform the audiences of possible reasons why ISIS
attacked Paris and how they might have done it. I agree with the authors argument because he
does not just state one reason on why and how Paris was attacked but gives more than one
possibilities for his argument. I also agree with the author when he states that we might not know
the true reason why and how Paris was attacked right now, but maybe in the future we will like
in the terror attack of 9/11 (McCants,2015).
I like this article because how the author provides more than one reason on how and why
Paris was attacked, as well as to backing up his argument with what happened in 9/11 as an
example. By doing this the author gives the audience a better understanding for his argument and
reasons for the terror attacks in Paris.
I will most likely use this article research in show my audience possible reasons of why
and how Paris was attacked by ISIS. The quote I would use to support my argument would be
terrorism is designed to provoke an overreaction- either complete disengagement or a
massive show of force (McCants, 2015). In order to show my audience one of the many reasons
terror attacks occur in the first place.

Karimi, F. (2015). Beirut suicide bombings: Why Lebanon and what's next? CNN. Retrieved
from http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/13/middleeast/beirut-suicide-bombings-explainer/
The authors main argument in the article is how Lebanon has been victimized by ISIS
many times and also telling whats going on in Lebanon. The authors back up her argument by
telling the audience who the attackers where, why Lebanon was attacked, attacks Lebanon has
faced before and how the attack has now effected Lebanon.
I am convinced with the authors argument due to the points she addresses in the article. I
like this article because of the way the author explains her argument in sections in order to help
the audience to better understand what the argument is.
I will most likely use this article in order to show my audience some reason why Lebanon
may have been attacked by ISIS, and the impact that it has caused to Lebanon. The quote I would
use from this article would be from the section Why would ISSIS target Lebanon where it states
More than 1million refugees escaping regional conflicts have flooded into Lebanon, and the
nations infrastructure and services are buckling under the pressure (Karimi, 2015). Using this
quote will help my audience better understand a reason why Lebanon may have been attacked by
ISIS.

Graham, D., A. (November 16, 2015). The empathy gap between Paris and Beirut. The Atlantic.
Retrieved from http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/11/paris-beirutterrorism-empathy-gap/416121/
The main argument in this article is about the terror attack in Beiruts receiving less
acknowledgment than Pariss terror attack, even though they were only a day apart and what it
might have caused the empathy gap. The author backs up his argument by talking about
Facebook having a safety check for Paris and not for Beirut, the number of deaths for each terror
attack, how media coverage both attacks, and how Americans are more aware about Paris than
Beirut. These key points may have caused the empathy gap between both cities.
I agree with the authors argument. I also like the article because David Graham gives
good key points when explain why Beiruts terror attack may have received less worldwide
acknowledgement compared to Paris terror attack.
I will use this for my research in order to show my audience reason why Beirut may have
received less empathy than Paris. I will use one of the authors key points where he states about
the number of death each terror attack caused, One potential explanation is simple: There were
three times more deaths in Paris than in Beirut (Graham, 2015). Using this will help me show
my audience a reason why Beirut may have received less empathy than Paris, when both terror
attacks were only a day apart.

Retrieved from http://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/111715/paris-attacks-andworld-economy.asp
The authors main argument in this article is about how the terror attack on November 13,
2015 in Paris, has made an impact on Pariss economy. The author backs up her argument by
telling the audience how the tourist industry, consumer spending and the Schengen Agreement
have been impacted in a negative way due to the recent terror attack.
I agree with the author of this article. I also like the article because the author gives good
evidence on how Paris economy has been impacted since the recent terror attack. The author also
gives the audience a lot of detail on her key points for her argument.
I will use this article in my research in order to show my audience how Paris has been
impacted since the terror attack by ISIS. A quote I will use in order to show my audience the
impact in Paris would be, The Schengen Agreement has helped boost the economic prosperity
and integration of the region Reintroducing borders would create delays; that would increase
the cost and hassle of doing business. It could also result in overall decline in the business appeal
of the region, which is already struggling with weak manufacturing activity and growth
numbers (Bajpai, 2015).
