Some may say that love is blind or love is sweet, but I believe that love is
complicated. People love someone that they are forbidden to love, or fall in love with someone
they didnt know they could love. Love is complicated because it is different in every situation.
In A Midsummers Night Dream love is very complicated and confusing. In A Midsummers
Night Dream love is very complicated because characters fall in love with the wrong people,
some fall in love with those they dont expect, and characters are forbidden to love each other.
In A Midsummers Night Dream love is complicated because characters fall in love with
the wrong people. For example, Puck is instructed by Oberon to put juice on Demetrius eyes so
that he will wake up and love Helena back. Take thou some of it, and seek through this grove; A
sweet Athenian lady is in love with a disdainful youth; anoint his eyes (62). When Puck goes to
find Demetrius she sees Lysander and thinks he is Demetrius, so she anoints his eyes. Lysander
wakes up and loves Helena instead of Hermia. Hermia and Lysander were going to get married,
but Lysander doesnt love Hermia anymore. Demetrius hates Helena still, so Puck is then
instructed to go put it on Demetrius eyes. After this Lysander and Demetrius fight over Helena
and Hermia is angry because Lysander no longer loves her. Helena believes the they are mocking
her because she thinks that neither of them love her. Oberon decides to put the juice on
Lysanders eyes and when he wakes up he loves Hermia again. They are arranged to be married
now because everyone loves the right people. Love is very confusing in this book because at first
no one liked the right people until Puck and Oberon fixed this with the juice from the flower.
In A Midsummers Night Dream the characters fall in love with people that they would
not expect to love. When Oberon anoints Hippolytas eyes she wakes up and sees Nick Bottom,

who has the head of a donkey, but she loves him anyway. She is under a spell, but when Oberon
anoints her eyes again she wakes up and loves Oberon. When she sees that she used to love Nick
Bottom she cannot believe that she loved a donkey. She did not expect to love someone with a
donkeys head. Also, Helena did not expect Demetrius and Lysander to love her because they
both loved Helena. She did not believe this so much that she thought they were mocking her.
Next, when Lysander was anointed again he awoke and loved Hermia again. When Hermia told
Lysander that he used to love Helena he did not expect that because he loves Helena so much.
Throughout this book love is confusing because characters fall in love with people they would
not expect to love.
In A Midsummers Night Dream love is confusing because some characters are forbidden
to love each other. For example, Hermias father forbids her to marry Lysander. Be it so she will
not here before your grace consent to marry with Demetrius (22). Egeus, Hermias father, says
that she must marry Demetrius. But Hermia wants to marry Lysander. So, they go to the duke
and he says that Hermia must marry Demetrius. Lysnader and Hermia decide to run away and get
married. But Demetrius is anointed with a love flower and loves Helena. So, in the end the duke
over rides Egeuss decision and Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, and Theseus and
Hippolyta get married.
Love is confusing in this book because Characters are forbidden to love each other. For
example, Lysander and Hermia were forbidden to be married, but the duke over rode Egeuss
decision. Characters love the wrong people, like how Lysander loved Helena instead of Hermia.
Also, the characters fall in love with people they would not expect to love, like how Hippolyta
falls in love with Nick Bottom, a man who has the head of a donkey. In A Midsummers Night
