Just imagine what it might be like for someone to take away your ability, choice,

and option to live--to never have the chance to go to school for the first and last time,
play on a sports team, marry the man/woman of your dreams, or to never have a family
of your own. You might be thinking, That is terrible! Who could ever do something like
that?. The fact of the matter, is that it happens every day amongst our very own
population and society. It is estimated there are about 1 million abortions annually in the
United States (Source World Health Organization). To take that a step further, there are
40-50 Million abortions per year worldwide. Abortion is an issue that must be changed,
because it is everyone's right to live, even if these human beings are not able to speak
for themselves just yet.
Abortion: the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often
performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. (Merriam Webster) The definition
itself claims one thing that sticks out to me, abortion is the termination of a human
pregnancy. We must ask ourselves, is the unborn a member of the human family? Is
abortion really taking the life of a defenseless human being?
I believe that ultimately it comes down to if you believe the unborn is alive or not.
I do not think it is a matter of one being Pro-Choice. In my opinion, many pro-life
advocates are Pro-Choice when it comes to many moral choices. They support
womens rights to choose her own healthcare provider, to choose her own school, to
choose her own husband, to choose her own job, to choose her own religion, and to
choose her own career. Pro-life advocates fully support the women of the United States,
and even the world, but they believe some moral choices are wrong. Taking a look at

the facts that aborted babies are alive, it is morally wrong, and it can result in medical
complications are very interesting proposals when considering your opinion on abortion.

The first reason for life is simply

the fact that aborted babies are alive. We
know that life begins at conception from
scientific facts. We must first walk
through the process of a baby in the
fetus to understand when conception
occurs. It happens at the very moment
the sperm cell unites with an oocyte.
Once this happens, they are combined to make one unique organism called a zygote.
After the zygote stage, the embryo has all of the tools necessary to develop itself into a
mature human being. The embryo has the same nature of an actual human being, it is
just at a developmental stage in maturing. ... there is only a difference in degree of
maturation, not in kind, between any of the stages from embryo, to fetus, infant and so
on. (Santo & Dean, 2004)
Ultrasounds can be a very decisive factor for women in choosing if they are
willing to carry out an abortion or not. Although images of an ultrasound are often not
shown to a woman, they do have the option to view the footage. Most Planned
Parenthood and Pro-Choice groups oppose any laws allowing women to view these
images. They call this option a torture weapon and a dangerous agenda.
(Lifesitenews)

The fact of the matter is that it is very much a dangerous agenda for the people
of Planned Parenthood. It is just a fact that when a woman sees the image of her child
on an ultrasound, her maternal instincts automatically kick in. She feels a strong bond
with something her body is developing. In fact, seventy-eight percent of women that
view their baby choose not to follow through with the abortion. There is just something
special about seeing your child. Several organizations such as Save the Storks and The
Womans Choice Network offer support, counseling, and a free ultrasound for women
before their appointment to receive an abortion. (Adam CohenThe Next Abortion
Battleground: Fetal Heartbeats)
When viewing the topic of abortion, one must take a look at it from a moral
viewpoint. Is it morally wrong to eliminate an embryo from the fetus? What does
abortion do to the world of adoption? Are we killing potential world changers? These are
some very important questions to view, and were key in my decision to oppose abortion.
Whether you believe in the Bible or not, it has been proved to be the oldest and
most reliable source in the history of civilization. However, it is very true that many
Americans take the Bible straight out of context in todays society in order to prove
some events wrong. When researching the Bible you must look at the entirety of the
text, not just the individual verse in which you refer to.
With that being said, there is only one verse that actually proves abortion to
absolutely be wrong. The Ten Commandments state rules for society to live by before
the new covenant was commissioned by God. One of these commandments said,
Thou shall not murder, in Exodus 20:13. These commandments remained true to the
world even after the New Covenant was made, because the Lord said, ...if you love me

you will keep My commandments. (John 14:15) This verse is in the New Testament
after the New Covenant was established, informing us to keep the commandments even
though our relationship with Christ is now made through faith and a relationship with
Him. With previously provided information on embryos being alive, we now know that it
is wrong to abort them.
Not only does abortion remove a child from the family of its own mother, there
are options to have another family raise your child through adoption. It is much cheaper
to choose adoption rather than abortion. It can cost you around $1,500 to receive an
abortion, while it is often no charge to put your child up for adoption. Adoption also give
the mother more choices for her child. Rather than just killing the child, she can choose
the family to which he/she goes to. It also gives her more time to make a decision on
keeping her child or not. As she is pregnant, she has time to pick out a family and make
a valuable decision on whether or not it is right to keep the baby or not, rather than
being rushed to make a quick decision at the time of the abortion. (Carol Anne Kemp)
One of the most compelling reasons to avoid abortion is: Arent we killing future
people? Could they be future world changers? Is the next Michael Jordan or Michael
Jackson not having the option to come into this world and show people what they have?
Did you know that Steve Jobs and Nelson Mandela were adopted? Both of their
mothers chose life for the boys, and they ended up changing the world forever. Can you
imagine society today without Apple products? It would be a depressing world with only
Samsung Galaxy devices. (Joshua Graber: Five Adopted Individuals Who Impacted Our
World)

Abortion may not be the safest choice as compared to an actual live birth. ninetyseven percent of women experience pain during abortion, which would be less than a
live birth. However, abortion clients are four times more likely to die the year following
an abortion than one that experiences a live birth due to several different medical
complications. The Finland researchers found that compared to women who carried to
term, women who aborted in the year prior to their deaths were 60 percent more likely
to die of natural causes, seven times more likely to die of suicide, four times more likely
to die of injuries related to
accidents, and 14 times
more likely to die from
homicide. (Abortion Risks:
A list of major physical
complications related to
abortion) This is a
testament to the fact that
abortion has many
psychological interventions with a woman.
Even with all of this evidence against abortion, there is an argued positive side
that could possibly help society. Stem cell research has become a new and exciting
idea in the science world. The idea of replacing bad cells with new ones in order to cure
a disease would a great advancement for technology and the medical field. Imagine
horrible diseases like Parkinsons and Alzheimer's being cured? This would cause a

great deal of sadness and stress to depart from the world, for these diseases are a very
horrible and unfortunate predicament.
The only bad part is that most of these stem cells used for research are acquired
from fetal tissue in abortion cases. What is even worse about the matter is that Planned
Parenthood is now allegedly profiting from selling body parts of the aborted children. It
is legal for these parts to be donated to research facilities, but it is determined illegal if
one profits from the donation of parts. (Victoria Colliver: Planned Parenthoods fetal
tissue controversy could slow research)
Aspen Baker believes that abortion is a largely discussed topic in todays world,
and that many people have various opinions on the issue. Everyone is getting a
different opinion from the media, your friends, leaders, and even your family. It is very
important to be Pro-Voice rather than Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. (Aspen Baker: A
better way to discuss abortion)
It is very key to remember that we live in a free country where everyone is
entitled to their own opinion. It is also important and our duty as an american citizen to
keep ourselves informed on different topics going on throughout the world. We must do
the research and come to our own opinion over a situation. However, I feel that one
must take a look at abortion from every angle. Because it is also everyone's right to live
with these american liberties, we must take a look at what we are doing to the future of
America. Are we even letting them have a shot at life?
