OBSERVATION TASKS
Remains calm and shows patience and understanding in the classroom.
Absolutely! Being in the classroom is very easy for Maddie she is
calm, cool and collected.
Uses classroom management procedures. Today students were very
trying. Points were given for good behavior instead of being taken
away for bad behavior. Zero voice level was used, hands were raised
for quiet. Agenda for the day on the smarboard, verbal reminders, etc.
Appropriately manages student behaviors. Maddie had to frequently
remind students about talking out of turn. Used hands to quiet room.
Might try saying, when I talk you dont take away the scenarios
since they couldnt keep voices down etc.
Communicates clearly with appropriate age-level vocabulary and
volume. Clear voice, discussed vocabulary and even though it was a
tough crowd you did well.
Provides appropriate feedback to the students. Maddie was really good
about giving good feedback about being safe on the internet.
Shows respect for the students and mentor teacher. Yes! Even though
kids are loud there is no true disrespect.
Demonstrates flexibility & responsiveness to the students.
Maddie is always flexible she went around to each group to find out
what their skit would be on. They were at the end of a card mark and
the kids were very rowdy.

Additional Comments:
First of all, Fridays are a tough day for an observation anyway. The
principal gave a really somber announcement about expectations and he
made a blanket statement about how he doesnt like how things have
been going lately. Today he would ask that all students be quiet during
lunch and recess as a reminder of their poor past behavior. With this
being said, students were already riled up some and so in between skits
Maddie had to keep reminding students about her expectations. So
what do you do when classroom procedures are ignored by students?
That is the question that needs to be answered. All I can say is that you
continue to strive for a well behaved classroom by using consistent
procedures and give tough love for consequences.
Suggested Improvements:
With over 30 students in class it can be a really tough situation. All it
takes is a few troublemakers or immature students to get everyone off
track. One of the problems is that these kids have all had some
experience with stranger danger (todays topic) by either hearing about
it or being a part of it. Perhaps they felt like they needed more
information that they didnt know.
Overall score: 90/100 A-
