Step-by-Step Instructional Process:

1. Discuss session norms (5 minutes)
Participants will create norms that will direct individual behavior, facilitate the
work of the group, and enable the group to meet the objective for this session and
prospective future sessions.
2. Introduction and Ice breaker (10 minutes)
As an opener, participants will match the Promethean tools to their defined
purposes and outcomes. Participants will use Handout 1 to check their answers. A
facilitated discussion regarding participants prior knowledge and use of these
tools will take place to determine readiness levels.
3. Creating an account (2 minutes)
Working, collaboratively participants will use Handout 2 to create or reestablish
accounts on Promethean Planet. The facilitator will demonstrate how to access the
site and register a new user for those who would like to follow along.
4. Locating resources (15 minutes)
Each participant will be given a mathematics standard based on their current
grade level. The facilitator will explain that each participant will locate one
flipchart aligned to the standard by using the keyword search tool. Play the Tour

of the Search video. Give participants time to browse and select the flipchart of
their choice. Go over with participants that the flipcharts can be previewed before
downloading and that the order in which the slides appear may not be the order in
which the flipchart is designed.
5. Downloading, saving, and retrieving (15 minutes)
Explain to participants that once they have viewed and selected the flipchart of
their choice, they can elect to download it. Prior to downloading, demonstrate for
participants how to create folders specifically designed to house the flipcharts that
will be easily accessible when needed. Participants will practice organizing and
retrieving saved flipcharts.
6. Modifying to meet your needs (15 minutes)
Explain that most features used in flipcharts from the free Promethean Planet database
are editable. This means that participants can change the layout to meet the needs of their
students and classroom. Explain how to change fonts, backgrounds, colors, etc. Give
participants Handout 3: The ActivInspire Cheat Sheet. Participants will use this handout
to modify at least one aspect of their selected flipchart.
7. Reflection and Debrief
Allow time for teachers to share discuss what they have learned, demonstrate the
processes of locating, downloading, and modifying a preexisting flipchart, and
explain ways in which they can use these flipcharts in the classroom to engage
students and support a student-centered learning environment.

Assessment/Evaluation Method(s): Using Google Forms, participants will be emailed a

concluding evaluation one week after the workshop. This will provide teachers with the time to
use the techniques that they have learned, implement with students, and gauge student
engagement.
