Racism- Opinion Report

Racism: A real problem or an excuse?

This semester has been a determination that racism is still a problem

in society. There is no doubt about racism being existent in todays
community. A question I have asked myself throughout this process is How
severe is racism in our community? People will always be prejudice or
discriminant towards others and not just based on the color of their skin. Its
our common nature unfortunately that we cannot fully put away our own
opinions and beliefs of others. It has become a realization that racism is in no
big effect in our society. In personal experiences, as well as witnesses to
others, I can say that racism is not a huge problem in our community.
However, there has been manipulation, false accusations, and incidents
where people believe that racism is a bigger problem more than ever. Which
leads to my question about it; is racism truly a problem amongst each other
or is it an excuse to win or lose in difficult situations?
In some instances, race has been nearly out of control. The September
11 attacks have influenced lots of people to go against Muslims for years.
Fast forward a few years later to the death of Trayvon Martin. His death was
the start of #BlackLIvesMatter. The social media tag had become viral all
over the United States. A few months ago was also another Isis attack in San
Bernardino, which led to people believing Muslims are a part of Isis. The list
of incidents and tragedies can go on and on but what have all of these
incidents led too? It has led to people believing that other races are unfair
and cruel, leading people to believe all people of that particular race is
responsible for the tragedies. My views about all the attention is just pure
ludicrous.

Racism is still existent in the United States and all over the world.
However, racism isnt a very big problem, as big as I thought it was. It is
unfortunate that people still use the race card to get into or out of
situations that most likely have nothing to do with race. I believe using race
to tear people down is an unjust and cruel to get people where they want to
be. Other situations that are also problematic are the people taking
advantage of the other race. For example, policemen have been a constant
target for being racist towards black people. Policemen must take action in
duty if they feel they are in any danger or if the person is being
uncooperative with the policemen. Its known that policemen, especially
white policemen, are being shamed for being racist, yet people dont seem
to understand that the man committing the crime could be rude,
uncooperative, and very difficult with dealing with the police which can
unfortunately lead to the death. Social media can be very manipulative and
can turn the situation around stating that all policemen are racist.
Racism is still a problem today. Although, is it also being abused to get
what people want? Do people really use the race card to justify their own
race and beliefs? It used to be a society where race was truly a problem and
it did affect peoples lives. Our community now uses race as a justification for
who they are and dont let people forget it. In experience, racism is not a
problem in my community. It is a very safe and accepting environment. I
think that people are truly racist and they need to adjust to the 21st century.
However in another point of view, people abuse race to manipulate others.
No matter what people do, you may never hear the end of racism in the world.
