Scene Description: This is a comic strip that describes the learners previous knowledge.

Speech: In the previous lesson we learnt about different sources of energy. The first source we
learnt of is the sun. Solar energy is taken from the light from the suns rays that hit the Earth.
Solar energy is the most plentiful form of energy found on Earth because it is found anywhere the
sun hits. The next source of energy is water. Swiftly flowing water and water that descends from a
very high point (a waterfall) both have lots of energy. The mechanical energy of the flowing water
turns turbines to run generators that convert energy into electricity.

Speech: On this slide you are viewing two more sources of energy: fossil fuels (vrrrrrrrooom) and
food (yum yum). Fossil fuels are remains of plants and animals. They provide us with a source of
heat energy when we burn them. Fossil fuels can either come in the form of oil, coal or natural
gas. Lets now talk about food. Plants perform a chemical reaction each time they use sunlight to
make their own food during photosynthesis. This energy is taken in by animals and humans when
we eat food.

energy is produced when we combine potential energy and kinetic energy. Wow! Can you see that
weightlifter? A weightlifter applies a force to cause a barbell to be displaced. The barbell then
possesses mechanical energy all in the form of potential energy.
