Understanding goals(s):
Students will understand

Essential Question(s):
Why is addition important?

The value of how to count forward

or backwards, and add numbers
appropriate to each grade level
TEK.

How do we use addition in

everyday situations?

Equivalent ways of using addition

and finding a sum.

Student
Objectives:
Students will be
able to
Create and find
the sum of a math
problem
appropriate for
each grade level
TEKS.
Count forward and
backwards to get
to the ending
point of the game.

Assessment of
Objectives:
How will you know if
students have met
the objectives
(formal/informal)?
I will know that the
students have met
these objectives by
informally seeing if
they were able to find
the correct sum to the
addition problem they
created. I will also
informally check for
understanding by
periodically asking for
a thumbs up, or a
thumbs down.

Title: Highest Tower

Stand: Numbers and Operations
Topic: Addition
Purpose of game and its relation to the TEKS: The
purpose of this game is for the students to try to build the
highest tower out of legos. The game board will be on a poster
board with boxes from start to finish. In a random order some
boxes will have a specific number of legos they will have to
lose), and other boxes will (have a specific number of legos they
can add) to their tower. The students gain legos by answering
the correct math problems based on each grade level TEK. The
students create their own math problem appropriate for each
grade levels TEK by spinning a spinner that has different digits
on them. The number of spins the student does will be based off
of the students grade level TEK. If the student correctly
answers the math problem they will roll the dice to see how far
to move on the game board. For Example: Kindergarten: Will
spin one time and move based on the number they spun. For
Kindergarten since they are not adding they will get a leg each
2
turn, but may lose or gain a Lego depending on the game board
box they land on. First Grade: The student will spin twice and
