My second semester in Professor Lawsons class was definitely more of a
challenge to my writing potential. I felt like this semester involved more analyzing and
critical thinking. Writing has always been my weakness, but facing these challenges in
this class has helped my understanding in writing and has also build-up my strength as a
writer. Having the transition from first semester to second semester with Professor
Lawson, I had already an idea as to how the class may be run. With the preparation of
first semester, I was sure-enough ready to face second semester. With the three different
projects we were assigned, I discovered similar strategies in establishing my essays. Each
and everyone were very similar in coming about but at the same time different from each
other. I was able to dominate two out of the three; I found myself struggling the most on
Project Space. Through these projects I gained more knowledge and preparation in my
writing skills as well as my forms of researching.
The first project assigned, which was Project Web was quite different from any
assignment Ive ever worked on in an English class. This project required blogs, which I
had never encounter doing in an English class. Creating a weebly was nothing new for
me because I already had previous experience with weebly, but was a very different

aspect I faced in an English environment. I wrote about the difference between Chinas
and the United States culture in their educational systems. Researching about Chinas
education system was a huge challenge. I wasnt able to find accurate and reliable
information that applied to my topic in relates to Chinas culture in education. I had never
used the Oviatts Library research base, but being introduced to this resource in my class
greatly guided me through this assignment. As I came about with my essay, I found
myself struggling with creating a strong thesis statement, everyones biggest challenge in
writing an essay. Therefore I gathered all my ideas I was planning to talk about, and
composed my thesis based upon my ideas/topics. As I continued to write, it was
becoming less and less of a problem and finally created my final product.
Though, an assignment I struggled on the most was Project Space. I based this
Project on cultural invasion in a small ethnical area named Little Tokyo. Observing the
place assisted my ideas on what to write about, but my information lacked on supporting
these ideas. I wasnt sure as to what exactly I wanted to make this essay about, until I
then gathered up everything and realized the cultural invasion in Little Tokyo. Even
though at first I hassled in figuring out what to make this essay about, I was able to
overcome the challenge and complete my essay.
Every project had about the same strategies as to creating the work. Even with the
different topics, I was still able to prepare and organize the essays by formatting it the
same way. These assignments have definitely improved my ability on writing essays. I
learned that my writing process becomes easier and easier as I encountered these
assignments. As much as I battle with writing, I try my best to face it and always over
come the challenge. I dont have much strength in writing, but as I practice and practice

more, the better of a writer Ill become. English 113B guided my writing skills into a
better atmosphere. Starting from the bottom with 113A and getting to 113B has modified
my writing potential tremendously. Ive gained much knowledge in preparing the topics
and everything that comes about an essay. As well as gaining experience in researching
better, which will highly help me in future assignments. The more one practices the better
one becomes, and by doing so in my past and present English class, I have enhanced my
ability on composing essays.
