Miss Taylor
My name is Hailie Taylor. I graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 2012. Then I
attended ABAC and graduated with my associates degree in early childhood education in
2014. After graduation from ABAC, I attended GSW. I graduated from GSW in 2017 with
my bachelors degree in early childhood education, and I have been a 1st grade teacher at
Annie Belle Clark Primary School ever since.

Reason for Newsletter

Class Calendar

This newsletter is designed to keep you


as informed as possible about what your
child is doing in science, as well as any
important information that you may
need. I will send out a newsletter each
week on Friday afternoon.

Monday- on Monday we will watch a video on the parts of a plant


on brain pop jr. Then the students will copy down their
vocabulary for the week.

Tuesday- On Monday we will have a read aloud with a big book on


the parts of a plant. Then we will take a trip to the school garden
and allow the students to observe different plants. The students
will then draw a picture of one of the plants that they observed in
the garden and write about its characteristics.
Wednesday- On Tuesday we will be building our own plant using
various different materials. Then the students will label the parts
of the plant that they built.
Thursday- On Wednesday we will build an interactive plant on
brain pop jr. using our class set of ipads. After the students have
completed their plant, they will present their plant to the class.
Friday- On Friday the students will take their weekly
vocabulary/spelling test on the parts of a plant.

On Wednesday we will be creating a plant on a piece of paper using


construction paper, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, and various other materials.
For a project, the students are required to build a 3-D model of plant using
whatever materials they choose and have at home. Please help your students
complete this project and be creative! Also, have fun with this! This will be
due on Monday, May 16th.

Standardized Test and Test Taking


Tips
There are no standardized tests
required for 1st grade, but your child
will have weekly quizzes as well and
benchmark tests. Some tips for these
assessments are:

Study for short period each


night.
Encourage students to eat
breakfast each morning.
Get a full nights sleep each
night.
Have multiple pencils in order
to be prepared.

Fun at Home:
A fun activity that can be completed with your child is growing your own
plant. Start with some seeds and go through all necessary steps to grow a
plant with your child. They will be amazed by the growth of the plant!
Take pictures each day to document the growth of the plant!
