Think About A World At Its Worst

Pollution is when harmful substances or contaminants are emitted into the environment.
There are many different types of pollution there is land pollution, air pollution, light pollution
and there is water pollution (7 Kinds of Environmental Pollution). All types of pollution are
harmful to your health. Not only does pollution harm humans, and the environment it also puts
marine life in risk every time somebody throws trash on the floor or dumps oil in the rivers and
oceans, it is also destroying the home of the marine life. As long as there are inexpensive
methods of energy there will always be pollution "Some states are benefiting from both cheap
electricity while polluting the planet and make all the rest of us suffer the consequences of global
warming.", says Frank O'Donnell, director of the Washington environmental group Clean Air
Watch. Others believe that by making pollution control laws, and renewable energy sources it
will bring an end to pollution. "Simple measures that enormously reduce pollution are feasible,
and they are not expensive", says Michal Krzyzanowski, air quality adviser for the World Health
Organization. Pollution will cause medical problems whether in the long run or happening now,
it can cause acid rain to be made and the acid rain will harm plants, animals and it will also kill
trees. Some types of medical problems caused by pollution are Lung Cancer, Respiratory
Disease, damage to the Nerves, Brain. Even though some people believe that if pollution was
stopped, it will cause more of a problem on the Earth such as producing infertile land
because the more you pollute the earth the more you are contributing to disease and
sickness, when you pollute the earth garbage travels into drain pipes, not only causing the
water to be polluted but also trapping and killing marine life. Others believe that pollution
is not a real threat to anyone or the earth.

By people using pesticides and toxins on the land to fertilize the plants it is causing the
soil to become degraded. One of the main contributors of soil pollution is Industrial Activity,
industrial activity is when we use manufacturing products and pulling iron and coal. Due to
human's daily activities we are making it harder to produce health or any food at all. As a result
of mining the industrial waste lingers in the soil surface for a long period of time and causes the
soil to become unsafe or unsuitable to use.
Another contributor to soil pollution is Agricultural Activities. Chemical use has gone up
tremendously since technology provided us with pesticides and fertilizers. That are filled with
chemicals that are not produced in nature and cant be broken down either. As an effect of this ,
they seep into the ground after they mix with water and slowly reduce the fertility of the soil.
Other chemicals damage the nature of the soil and make it easier to become destroyed by water
and air.
The final contributor towards soil pollution researched is Waste Disposal ( cause and
effects of soil pollution ) . Waste disposal is when all the waste that humans have disposed of
goes to some different location whether its the waste plants or landfills. While much of it
transfers into the sewer systems, theres also a large amount that is dumped into landfills in the
form of canals. Even the sewer system ends at the landfill, where the waste pollutes the soil and
water. This is because our bodies are full of toxins and chemicals which are now absorbing into
the land and causing pollution of soil.
The main cause of soil pollution on the earth is caused by things people think are normal
and are the right thing to do, the daily activities for a human is the first step of soil erosion.

The more you pollute the earth the more you are contributing to disease and sickness in
not only animals but also in you. Every time someone sprays an aerosol can or drives their car
on gas or you produce more factor smog youre making the air even more contaminated. Far too
many Americans an estimated amount of 25 million people are with the symptoms of an asthma
attack. When asthma strikes, your airways become constricted and swollen, filling with mucus.
Your chest feels tight you may cough and you just can't seem to catch your breath. In severe
cases, asthma attacks can be deadly. Serious Asthma attacks kill more than 3,000 people every
year in the United States. About 40% of deaths are caused by air and soil pollution worldwide
( Lang). Such environmental degradation, coupled with the growth in world population, are
major causes behind the rapid increase in human diseases, which the World Health Organization
has recently reported. Both factors contribute to the malnourishment and disease susceptibility of
3.7 billion people. About 40 percent of deaths worldwide each year are caused by water, air and soil
pollution . Soil is polluted by many chemicals and pathogens, which become passed on to humans

by direct contact or through food and water. Increased soil erosion worldwide not only results in
more soil being wasted and destroyed but the spreading of disease and pathogens being emitted
on the earth. There are many people with no food and water that are becoming malnourished and
those people are becoming susceptible towards disease and sickness. Think about it when you
pollute the soil, the water and the air youre not only making yourself sick but youre also
making the animals you eat sick that soil and plants that your contaminating with chemicals is
the same grass the cows eat or the water that the fish swim in is the same water you drink and the
same seafood you eat. All of those people that are dying from asthma attacks, respiratory disease,
malnourishment, malaria and many other sickness you know what is happening.

When you pollute the earth, the garbage will go into drain pipes, not only causing the
water to be polluted but can also trap and kill marine life. Most marine life is either killed by
plastic that people have just thrown outside and water contamination. But, they say, that's likely
to be because the food chain is soaking up the smaller particles of plastic, known as
microplastics ( Doyle ). The impact of humans has now reached every part of Earths oceans, and
not really good for ocean creatures and humans alike. In a study released in the February 2008
journal Science, researchers found that human activity -- from overfishing to greenhouse gases
and global warming to the introduction of toxins into the environment has affected every
square mile of ocean on the planet and strongly impacted roughly 40 percent of marine
ecosystems ( Bohle ). Its not only in america, one of the most polluted rivers in the world is
called the Citarum River it is located in West Java, Indonesia rapid population growth has
brought many people close to this river. As the population grew so did the amount of household
garbage and waste. Which threatens the health of people around this river and the people that use
this water for their daily needs. Another pollutant that can be harmful to our clean water would
be oil spills. Think about it if there is an oil spill in a big lake where does that lake lead to it leads
straight into the ocean would you drink oil or want to bathe in oil, I think not. 75% of the earths
surface is covered in water yet it is still hard to get fresh and clean water to drink or to use out of
all that water studies show that 0.08% of that water is used for domestic use. Fourteen billion
pounds of garbage preferably plastics are dumped in the ocean every year. 15 million children
under the age of 5 in the world each year because of disease and sickness caused by polluted
drinking water. How would you feel if that was your child that couldn't live their full life because
somebody wanted to throw their waste in the ocean rather than disposing of it correctly.

Think about a world where pollution was the norm and was a positive thing for humans
and the earth. Would you want to eat the fish that were floating atop the polluted water? There
would be less of a population of fish in the ocean because of all the garbage, oil, and toxins in the
water it will kill the marine life. What about humans if pollution was the norm then visualize
exactly how sick humans would become. One day youre walking outside the door of your house
and there is a huge pile of garbage on your lawn that had a really gross smell and just looked
misplaced. All of that garbage can not be good for you because you are breathing in all of the
toxins in the garbage. You go in the house for a cup of water and your water is a brown color but
its normal so drink it right ? No, not right because now you have a polluted front yard that
would most likely cause you to have a respiratory disease and polluted water which you could
get any sickness. Now its time to go to work and you and your husband are driving to the exact
same place but driving different cars. Most cars have a combustion engine that burns fuel for
energy which causes a bunch of harmful chemicals such as carbon dioxide and car fumes and
the smoke from the engine to escape into the air. So now youre reading an article about the
cigarette company where they are burning all their waste to get rid of it. Not only are the
cigarette companys selling cigarettes which kill you, but the people that smoke cigarettes are
taking a part in pollution because the smoke that the cigarettes emit into the air is considered a
form of pollution called air pollution. You see nothing wrong with this because everybody does it
its normal. Now its time to go to the doctors. You get to the doctor's office and they tell you that
you have Cancer and that you could die any day now. Does polluting the earth sound good to you
now that you have a shortened life because of it ?

Even though some people believe that if pollution stopped, it will cause more of a
problem on the Earth such as producing infertile land because the more you pollute the earth the
more you are contributing to disease and sickness, and when you pollute the earth, the garbage
will go into drain pipes, not only causing the water to be polluted but can also trap and kill
marine life. Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people.
Thats comparable to global diseases like malaria and HIV. Studies have shown that most of the
waste that is in the ocean is from cargo ships and cruise liners passing by and dumping their
waste on the sea bed. Over 100,000 seabirds and sea mammals are killed by water pollution
every year. Imagine that you were a bird flying above the sea in search of food and as youre
eating the fish you fell from the sky and died. Think about it, its happening to you at this exact
second it's just taking a little longer. If the fish are becoming sick from your waste and pollutants
then what do you think is happening to the person eating the fish that are contaminated ? By
people using pesticides and toxins on the land to fertilize the plants it is causing the soil to
become degraded when the soil is degraded so are your vegetables and plants. Heres a Fun Fact
for you in case you didn't know dirty water is the biggest health risks in America. Asthma can
become, an effect of air pollution if youre breathing in toxic fumes all day every day for your
whole life it will cause you too have breathing problems such as Respiratory Infection and
Asthma. Pollution will cause medical problems whether in the long run or happening now, it can
cause acid rain to form and the acid rain will harm plants, animals and it also kills trees. If the
trees are all gone then there goes the oxygen in the world. When you actually think about it,
pollution causes problems, there will always be something happening as long as pollution exist
in our world .
