Empathy's purity, sympathy's complexities; De Waal, Darwin and Adam Smith

This article is on Frans de Waals view on empathy. Frans de Waal believed that empathy is the
basis of morality which is similar to Darwins theory on the subject. I believe that this relates to
the topic because it gives the perspective of a world renown philosopher on how we are not so
different from high intelligence animals.

Topic 4: The Buddha and Bodhisattvas

READING THE BUDDHA AS A PHILOSOPHER.

This article is about the perspective that is given when reading the story of the Buddha as a
philosopher. The article involves the statement of Paul Williams that the Buddha was almost a
doctor in giving humanity to people who had lost theirs. I believe this correlates with the topic
because even though it is Buddha seen through the eyes of a philosopher it stills gives a pretty
similar vision as what the Buddha is renown for.

Topic 5: Women Studies and Warrior Women

How the 2016 Oscar Nominees Did on the Bechdel Test.
This article is about how the nominations of this years Oscar nominees performed when taking
the Bechdel Test. The fact that very few of the nominees passed the test proves that although
many accomplishes have been made for women there is still a long way to go if something as
simple as passing the Bechdel test is proven to be difficult. I believe this is relevant to the topic
because it is related to feminism and how there is still improvement needed to be done.
