not comforted by the fact that he will not starve for

experience the slightest thrill when they receive
money. They probably are not as thankful for money
as the lower-classed citizens, but they feel a mild form
of excitement in knowing that they are a little

the exuberance one feels is relative to 16 the amount of

money that they already possess, but regardless, it is
safe to say that money has never made someone feel
unhappy.
Benjamin Franklin was ignorant in saying that
"money has never made man 17 happy" because that is
simply a false statement. Some real-world examples
that disprove this statement are wealthy men and
women, known as secret millionaires, who invest
their time into finding genuinely good people on the
streets, who have little to no money. After finding
people that they thoroughly believe in, they donate
large sums of money to support them with a better
lifestyle. There has never been a case when a recipient
of money does not become overwhelmingly happy
when they receive funds. Situations like these also
falsify Franklins argument that money has "not in its
nature to produce happiness" because it conjures
hope in a poor man's world. Impoverished people
who receive money have a newfound sense of hope 18
in knowing that they can restart their lives and live a
better lifestyle. IN the eyes of the less fortunate,
money is just a tangible forms of God's blessing.
While money buys happiness 19 at first sight, the time
that someone remains happy directly depends on how
they spend it. For instance, if someone receives
money and uses it to start a business, as well as raise a
family, he is almost guaranteed happiness in knowing
that he will develop an ongoing source of income and
surround himself in 20 a group of people that love him.
However, one can spend their money on lottery
tickets and in casinos, hoping that they will win even
more money, but this will ultimately lead to regret. In
this regard, Benjamin Franklin was correct in stating

that "the more [money] one has 21 the more one

wants." Nonetheless, it a choice as to if money will buy
you happiness or not.
Overall, Daniel Gilbert was more sensible regarding
his view on money's relationship with happiness
because the thought of being more wealthy than you
were before is an appealing idea to everyone. The
relationship somewhat relative in that a lower-class
person would probably be more grateful for additional
money than an upper or middle-classed citizen, but it
is hard to argue that receiving money has a negative
effect on anyone. However, the true 22 key to buying
happiness comes with how one uses their money and
what their intentions are for the future.
