K.RF.3.a Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound

Beanie Babies: Bear (/b/), Cat (/c/), Dog (/d/), Frog (/f/), Gorilla (/g/), Horse (/h/),
Joey (/j/), Kangaroo (/k/), Lion (/l/), Monkey (/m/).

Discuss how to produce the sounds B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, and M and how we

form them in our mouths, what they feel like, if the breathe goes out or stops,
where out tongue is and what our lips are doing. Say name (B), say letter sound
(/b/) then write letter in the air.
Show an uppercase magnet letter (B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, and M.), and using the
beginning sounds mat, say the letter name (B), say the sound (/b/) then place it
on the picture that starts with /b/. Continue for all pictures on mats.

Ask students to pick a Beanie Baby, and ask them what letter it starts with (letter name)
and what sound that letter makes, then ask them to draw that letter in the air.
