Sr ROU CRS Dore tad Cee emo ed The International Conference on Media, Communications, and Sociology (iCOMICOS), organized by Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, invites submissions of abstracts for papers for the conference to be held on 18-19 November 2016 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The deadline to submit an abstract is on 30 une 2016. Revolution in information and communication technologies not only triggers global responses but also drives local movements. According to Konieczy (2012), “Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have empowered non-state social actors, notably, social movements. Mass email ‘campaigns, blogs, audio-and video-variants (the podcasts and the videocasts), social networks like Facebookand MySpace, and other tools, such as Twitter, are increasingly popular among the movements, and their activists.” Consequently, changes are unavoidable for those who live in big cities as well as in ruralareas. ‘Numerous studies have shown the impacts of information and communication technologies to society. Positively, those who have never had access to information now have a chance to move and act beyond their geographical and socio-cultural borders. Individuals and organizations are now embracing social media as a campaign tool. The survey by the One World Foundation, as quoted by Ambardi (2014), showed that Facebook was used by 76% civil society groups However, this phenomenon then leads to a paradox. Ithas a potential to widen up the reach of local wisdom but it also challenges the locality to survive from any influences that come from any part of the world ‘The globalissues have now become localand the localityhas the chance to move beyond borders. The distinct between global and local is now being contested. Therefore, we need to question: how far has the locality spanned and mingled amidst the rapid speed of changesinthisso-called borderless era? The Intemational Conference on Media, Communication and Sociology ((COMICOS) aims to explore any possible answers of this question. In 2016, to expand its coverage, the iOMICOS will be conducted as an international conference involving international speakers from different countries and inviting scholars, practitioners, academics, students and others who are interested in the topic from all over the world. ‘SubThemes, iComicos 2016 covers, but not limited to, the following topics: 1.
