In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

INTRODUCTION
Pentecost is a day of promises fulfilled. The promised Spirit of God is
poured out. The baptized have become children of God and joint heirs
with Christ. By the power of the Spirit we have seen the face of the Father
in his only begotten Son and been saved by him. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
CHILDREN are always welcome to our Worship Service. Rainbow bags
and a cry room are available. A staffed nursery is also available if needed.
An usher will gladly provide you with assistance.
As a worship courtesy, we ask that you please turn off or set to vibrate

God Almighty, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Grant us, we pray, to be
grounded and settled in your truth by the coming of the Holy Spirit into our
hearts. That which we know not, reveal; that which is wanting in us, fill up;
that which we know, confirm; and keep us blameless in your service;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray.
God our creator, the resurrection of your Son offers life to all the peoples of
earth. By your Holy Spirit, kindle in us the fire of your love, empowering
our lives for service and our tongues for praise, through Jesus Christ, our
Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and forever.

FIRST READING: Acts 2:1-21

When the day of Pentecost had come, [the apostles] were all together in
one place.2And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a
violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3Divided
tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of
them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in
other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
5Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in
Jerusalem.6And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered,
because each one heard them speaking in the native language of
each. 7Amazed and astonished, they asked, Are not all these who are

CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the
virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified

Let us pray.
Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower
us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad
and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Praise to you for the death and resurrection of Christ.

Praise to you for your Spirit poured out on all nations.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and
for all people for the forgiveness of sin.

With this bread and cup we remember our Lords passover from death to
life as we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
O God of resurrection and new life: Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on

Erik, King of Sweden, martyr, died 1160
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Erik is considered the patron saint of Sweden. As king of that nation, he
tried to bring peace in the region, and to spread Christianity in Scandinavia.
He was also known for his attempts to make fair laws and to protect those
who were poor or sick.
Helena, mother of Constantine, died around 330
Saturday, May 21, 2016
Influenced by her son to become Christian, Helena (or Helen) lived an
exemplary life of faith. She is also remembered for traveling through

Palestine building churches on the sites she believed to be associated with

Christ's life.

Pentecost
The liturgical celebrations of Pentecost are rich and varied. The main sign
of Pentecost is the color red. It symbolizes joy and the fire of the Holy
Spirit. Priests or ministers and choirs wear red vestments, and in modern
times, the custom has extended to the lay people of the congregation
wearing red clothing in celebration as well. Red banners are often hung
from walls or ceilings to symbolize the blowing of the mighty wind and
the free movement of the Spirit. They may depict symbols of the Holy
Spirit, such as the dove or flames, symbols of the church such as Noahs
Ark and the Pomegranate, or especially within Protestant churches of
Reformed and Evangelical traditions, words rather than images naming for
example, the gifts and Fruits of the Spirit. Red flowers at the
altar/preaching area, and red flowering plants such as geraniums around the
church are also typical decorations for Pentecost masses/services. These
symbolize the renewal of life, the coming of the warmth of summer, and the
growth of the church at and from the first Pentecost.
Geranium Pelargonium
Geraniums have been a gardeners favorite for well over a century. The
old-fashioned standard for beds, borders, and containers, geranium is still
one of the most popular plants today. Traditional bedding types love hot
weather and hold up well to dry conditions; many offer colorful foliage.
Regal, also called Martha Washington, geraniums are more delicate-looking
and do better in the cool conditions of spring and fall.
Though most geraniums are grown as annuals, they are perennials in Zones
10-11. Bring them indoors to overwinter, if you like, then replant outdoors
in spring. Or they can bloom indoors all year long if they get enough light.
