L-1-2 Demonstrate knowledge of stages of growth and development of
pediatric client
One significant learning experience related to this competency was
understanding the stages of development of Erik Erickson through
attending the theory class. During class, I learned more about the stages
and the professors stories and experiences were helpful in
understanding the stages more. This learning experience through class
has provided me with an in depth knowledge because I was able to put it
into perspective during examples and scenarios in class. Reading the
book also played a role in providing me with knowledge about the stages
of growth and development.

During our theory class, I learned that understanding the pediatric

clients stages of growth and development is beneficial in proving
him/her the best of care. I believe that knowing the stage my client is in

I rate myself as good in this competency because I believe that I have

understood the competency in theory and in scenarios and be able to
apply it to nursing practice. I believe that I was able to achieve this
competency because I was able to apply my knowledge as we go
through scenarios in class. I was able to put into perspective the correct
approach in proving care by analyzing their stage of growth and
development. I also believe that there is still room for more knowledge
which I can achieve through dealing with actual clients.

I conclude that by knowing my pediatric clients stage of growth and

development, I will be able to provide the best approach in promoting
health. With this knowledge, I will also be able to plan my care that is
suitable to their stages of growth and development. I believe that I can
apply this learning in the current practice during exams and
understanding scenarios. In the future, I can apply this learning in
dealing with pediatric clients in letting them understand their health
status or in explaining certain procedures. Being in a big family, my
relatives would always ask my recommendations in their health practices
or what actions to take when they are sick. It would always be a question
about their children, from small things such as how to give them their
medicine. I believe that from learning this competency, I can provide
recommendations on how to give medicine and by using appropriate
approach in promoting health. By having this competency, I will also be
able to provide a chance for early detection of various problems which
may affect my client in the future. I will also be able to know whether
my clients stage of growth and development status is within the normal
range especially in terms of tracking their milestones. Lastly, I believe
that this competency will be able to help me provide knowledge to the
parents especially in understanding their childs health status.
