Digital Media: Intro to Careers

Paragraph:
In Digital Media 1, I understand that we will be using a number of programs and
equipment, including our school laptops and installed programs such as Google Classroom and
Calendar, etc., Adobe Photoshop, and other online and digital programs to do this class. I
suppose I have questions on exactly what programs we will be using throughout the year, and
exactly how they work, but I do not expect or require explanations at this time, and I am
prepared to look at the various programs as they come up in the course. As far as any major
strengths or weaknesses go, I am somewhat forgetful and absent-minded, and if I am required to
simply remember I have an assignment due, I am likely to forget. This is also influenced by the
amount of things I am required to remember in all of the things which I do throughout the day. I
also try to be as dependable as possible, and do not like to be late or do anything late.
Employability:
-Responsibility: This means being accountable and admitting mistakes made. This also
means to learn from and correct mistakes, ensuring that they will not be repeated. This is
important to establish and strengthen trust.
-Dependability: This means being able to be depended on, and fulfilling all of your
obligations and responsibilities. This means turning in work and completing projects on time,
arriving and doing things when and how you said you would do it, and living up to your
obligations.
-Ethics: This means you obey all of the standards of the law, and if one includes morals
under this section, then one also places personal, family, or community standards of action. This
is important, because you should be able to trust others, and others should be able to trust you, to
do what is right, and be trustworthy.
-Respect: This means you respect other people you interact with and treat them with
respect and dignity. This also means no insulting, sarcasm, snide jokes, or disregarding of
anothers feelings or their ideas.

-Cooperation: This means working well with other people and putting aside personal
differences to work towards a common goal. This means to respect, work with, encourage, assist,
and be a partner to those who you work with in any situation. This is important to maximize
effort and success, and keep an enjoyable and civil environment.
SEOP: SEOP stands Student Education Occupation Plan. This means to plan ahead and choose
what things you will be trying and what schools you will be attending throughout your education
to provide you with an enjoyable and reliable occupation. The earlier you develop this plan, and
the more often you choose to re-examine it, will help you to see what you want, what you need
to get there, and the best way to do it, in the quickest and most effective way possible.
Commercial vs. Professional Artist: A commercial artist is someone who typically goes to
work for a boss. They are told what to draw by their employer and/or customer, and must draw it
to their satisfaction. They are usually paid by how well the customer is satisfied with their work.
Professional artists on the other hand, draws or paints whatever artwork they please, and then
must try to find someone to buy it. They often have a more difficult time marketing their work,
and they also have a lower range of appeal to their artwork, and thus their buyers. These artists
are also known as starving artists by their often high-quality but low-selling artwork, resulting
in a lot of time spent and no money.
Career: Application Programmer.
1. Required skills are competency in more than one programming language (e.g. Java, Python,
C++), a meticulous and logical mind, team-working capabilities, and the ability to understand
clients needs.
2. Education may include a degree in such subjects as physics, engineering, mathematics,
computer science, or software engineering. A postgraduate IT conversion course is also helpful,
especially for graduates without a relevant degree. Other part-time programming and computing
courses, as well as relevant work experience can also be advantageous.
3. Organizational skills include self-management and proper management of various courses,
to show optimal performance. This includes timeliness and tidiness in your work station and
files.
4. Self-motivation is imperative, as one must occasionally work longer hours to meet
deadlines, and exceeding patience is necessary to proofread, correct, and test the necessary
programming and code.
5. Utah State University has an undergraduate Computer Science program that would be an
effective preparation for a career in application programming. This program uses programming

languages such as Java, html, or C++ to create new programs and solve programs. This includes
and focuses on theoretical understanding of computers, and shows practical techniques for actual
implementation.
6. Courses that would need to be completed include Computer Science, and various other
which I have not been able to determine, likely such as English, Math, and Science, which may
depend on the level of the degree chosen to be pursued.
7. The length of time one would need to be in school for is usually four years (a basic
bachelors degree), though some employers will hire those with only a two-year associates
degree.
8. On average, an applications programmer would make about $83,000 a year, depending on
location, experience, etc.
