Direction of velocity and accelaration

Q: Can acceleration and velocity of a body act in opposite directions?

Ans: Yeah.. it is possible because acceleration and velocity doesn't depend on each other. e.g. if
a body is going in a straight horizontal path and there is some friction, that friction acts in
opposite direction to the velocity and thus acceleration is opposite to velocity. the body will
eventually slow down and finally come to rest.

Q: Can anything have an acceleration in the opposite direction to its velocity?

Give examples.
Ans: I note everyone says, when you're in a car slowing down, that's acceleration. and it is. or
when you throw a ball up, and "acceleration" slows it down.
but how 'bout:
when you're standing tossing a ball to a friend. if you're facing east and west, you know that the
surface of the earth is going about 1000 mph. (that's what makes the sun go around.) so one of
you is accelerating the ball to 1010 mph, and the other is accelerating the ball to 990 mph.
the earth is traveling around the sun at about,
(93 000 000 * pi) / (365 * 24) = 33,352.5247 mph (hmm, pretty fast).
when you launch a rocket around sunrise, you add to that 33k mph, but around sunset, you
subtract from the 33k mph.
when you're on a school bus that's moving, you could walk to the front, or the back of the bus.
which would add to, or subtract from the buses speed -- and do the reverse when you arrived
at your destination seat, and stopped.

Q: Direction of Acceleration and Velocity at same instant of time.
