Dear Family,
In this chapter, your child will learn about exponents, scientific
notation, squares and square roots, and the real numbers.
Exponents are often used in multiplication problems when one
factor is being multiplied many times.

The term 47 is called a power. The exponent, 7, represents the
number of times the base, 4, is used as a factor.
Students learn how to multiply and divide powers that have the
same base.
